Criticism: there are three main types of criticism: destructive, constructive, and instructive.
NOTE: Criticism is important. Personally, I’m not a big fan of being criticized. I don’t mind dolling it out every now and then. LOL. When I was an enlisted man in the army, I had a couple of sergeants who criticized me – my buddies laughed and called it an ass chewing. It was all that and more. I didn’t like it. I didn’t make the same mistakes a second time. I needed it. When I entered higher education I went to a publishing workshop. The big take away was all about criticism. The speaker said, when you get a paper rejected, and you will, you’ll probably be angry. Enjoy your anger for 24 hours, then let it go and take their criticism seriously and strengthen your paper and resubmit it. The speaker was right. I didn’t like the criticism. I chose to learn from from and it made all the difference in my career. Embrace criticism, use it as a reference point for self-evaluation.

Searching – As a verb, “searching” means to look through or go through something carefully and thoroughly in an effort to find or discover something.
What are you searching for? In the 19th century American west, many prospectors searched for gold. A few struck it rich. Some thought they struck it rich but were told at the assayer’s office they found ‘fools gold.’ In contemporary society we may not be digging on mountain sides or panning for gold; yet, in many ways we seek to strike it rich. Make sure you’re searching for what really is important and not fools gold.

Confidence: A feeling or consciousness of one’s powers or of reliance on one’s circumstances.
NOTE: We gain confidence in our abilities by having the courage to test them. When we test ourselves in trying circumstances and succeed our confidence grows. Sports psychologists use mental rehearsals as a way of priming confidence for upcoming events. Another way of priming your confidence is to review your personal history of challenging experiences where you succeeded. When you do, you will discover you have all you need to succeed in the moment.

Cheerfulness is a state of being happy and positive can also be described as a bright, pleasant quality.
Note: Would you rather be around a grumpy, depressed person or one whose cheerfulness is contagious? I’ve been around both. I avoid the grump and gravitate toward the cheerful person. When we radiate cheerfulness we attract people who want to share in our sunlight.
