🤗 A Better Life ~ Change Happens

Things change. We change. We’re not the same person we were five years ago, a year ago, or even a month ago. Our experience changes us whether we want to be changed or not. Learn to roll with it. Make the best of it. Make change your friend.

✒️ Writers’ Wisdom ~ The Duty of the Novelist

“The first duty of the novelist is to entertain. It is a moral duty. People who read your books are sick, sad, traveling, in the hospital waiting room while someone is dying. Books are written by the alone for the alone.”

~ Donna Tartt

💡 Something to Think About

One COVID-19 experience I’ve had is to discover the need to engage in conversation with others. I went for a neighborhood walk and I met a friend. We began talking and the next thing I knew, 15 minutes passed by. Yes, we kept social distance while we talked. I was grateful for my friend because I could communicate with another human being. I was grateful I could listen to my friend because I recognized my friend’s need to communicate. A COVID-19 lesson for me, listening and being present to another is a really big deal. Have you had a similar experience?

🌾 Today’s Poem ~ Getting Set

Getting Set

Grantland Rice

WHEN morning brings the end of sleep
I say, ‘This is my toughest day
I’ll find the shadows dark and deep,
With raw Fate on the right of way
So when Misfortune stops and hails
I do not meet him with a curse ;
I’m propped against the roughest gales,
Since I had figured something worse,

I underwrite the loudest crash
That may befall the erring soul,
And if by chance things go to smash,
I’ve been in training for the role.
But if my path escapes the muck
And I come on a kinder fate,
Or get an even break in luck
I say, ‘What, ho i But this is great !’

It’s all in how the mind is set,
And so it’s well enough to know
Most days are rainy, dark and wet
Or wind-swept, with a hint of snow;
And if by chance the sun breaks through
To dance among the fading vines
From just one narrow slit of blue,
It’s all the brighter when it shines.

🌞 Today’s Inspiration ~ Make Your Happiness

So plant your own gardens and decorate your own soul, instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.

~ Jorge Luis Borges

👊 Today’s Power Thought ~ A Humble Person

A humble person admits when he or she needs help. A humble person admits he or she doesn’t know. A humble person acknowledges he or she is wrong. When you meet a humble person, you’ve met someone special.

✒️ Writers’ Wisdom ~ On Character Development

“I sometimes use some personality traits to fashion part of a character. Most of my characters are composites of either people I know or people in the public eye.”

~ Nelson DeMille

🤗 A Better Life ~ Ask the Right Question, Get a Better Answer

What we ask, determines what we find. In other words, the questions we ask determine where we will go.

This morning I asked myself, “How can I make this a great day?” I’ve repeated the question throughout the day. It has been a great day. I’m going for another tomorrow.
