Thinking Out Loud: What Should You Do?

Spread the love

“Before him he saw two roads, both equally straight; but he did see two; and that terrified him–he who had never in his life known anything but one straight line. And, bitter anguish, these two roads were contradictory.” ~ Victor Hugo, Les Misérables

NOTE: Have you ever been confronted with two opposing, equally good choices? I have and for me when I was in these kinds of situations (usually job related) I went through the drill. List the positives and negatives. Did that. Get advice from trusted friends. Did that. Collect as much information as I can. Did that. A mentor told me to flip a coin. Put one choice on heads, the other on tails. He said when you flip the coin pay attention to your feelings when the coin lands. If you’re happy with the way the coin fell, that’s your choice. If you’re unhappy, choose the other option. Did that, I then asked, “Can I do the best two out of three?” I discovered, as usual through the hard way, the best way is after one does his/her due diligence, i.e., the stuff above, make a decision and don’t look back. Don’t question it. Focus on moving on.
