I lived in Kansas for part of my life. Kansas is mostly rural, flat, and farm country. One thing you see in Kansas are lots of silos. One use of silos is to store grain. Silos are a good metaphor that help explain the divisions we see among people. Silos are safe places because everyone is the same. You can have silos of different religions. Each one expressing it alone is the chose silo. You can have political silos where the silos house believers of a candidate or political group. There are racial and ethnic silos as well. It takes courage to leave one’s silo and discover what’s going on in the other silos. Perhaps if we all left our silos we could meet somewhere in the middle and figure out how to get along with each other.
