Writer’s Prompt: A Taste for Revenge: A Gripping Flash Fiction Thriller

Spread the love

One thousand, three hundred and forty-seven days of waiting—until revenge sits across a desk with an envelope that changes everything.

The clock struck 1,347 days, the precise length of Liam Stokey’s exile, measured not in calendar dates, but in bitter, accounting accuracy. Today was the final entry. Billionaire Winston Quest, the man who considered human lives mere pawns, would finally pay.

Four years prior, Quest had used his immense wealth to have Liam disbarred on a fabricated charge. Not content with shattering his career, Quest had then systematically seduced and then discarded Liam’s wife, a twisted game that left her broken and then alone six months later. Quest operated on a plane far above the law, believing himself untouchable. But today, the immutable law of cause and effect would finally meet him.

Liam had not forgotten. He didn’t need a photo of Quest’s smug face or his cold, indifferent blue eyes to remember. He needed only to remember the smell of ink on the fraudulent indictment and the sound of his front door locking him out for the last time. He would make Quest grovel first, peel back that layers of arrogant certainty to find the mewling coward beneath. He would savor every ounce of the billionaire’s sudden, profound understanding that the pawns sometimes strike back.

Standing outside Quest’s sprawling estate, Liam felt a calm obsession settle in his gut. Today, the accountant was finally going to collect.
