Two rival private eyes, one massive bounty, and a gangster who wants them both dead. Who pulls the trigger first?

The Last Contract
The rain over the city didn’t wash away the grime; it just made it slick.
Leo adjusted the collar of his trench coat in the shadow of the abandoned textile mill. Across the cracked concrete, Elena leaned against a rusted girder, her silhouette sharp, the amber ember of her cigarette glowing like a low-tier warning light.
They were the best independent investigators in the city, which meant they usually got in each other’s way. Tonight, they had the same client.
“He called you too, huh?” Elena’s voice cut through the downpour, cool and steady.
“Sal don’t make mistakes, Elena. He makes moves,” Leo replied, keeping his hand pocketed, fingers brushed against the cold steel of his revolver.
Salomón “The Saint” Rossi had a problem: a leak in his organization that had cost him a multi-million dollar shipment. He had summoned both PIs to his penthouse three hours ago. But the meeting wasn’t to hire them for a routine asset recovery. Sal had placed a thick, leather-bound briefcase on the mahogany desk, snapping it open to reveal neat stacks of banded hundred-dollar bills. Half a million.
“The leak is gone, but the liability remains,” Sal had smiled, teeth gleaming like polished ivory. “Only one of you walks away with the retainer. The one who ensures the competition… retires permanently.”
Now, in the hollow carcass of the mill, the tension stretched to a breaking point. Elena tossed her cigarette into a puddle. It hissed and died.
“Half a million buys a lot of fresh starts, Leo,” she murmured, her posture shifting into something coiled and lethal.
“I was thinking the exact same thing,” Leo said.
A floorboard creaked above them. A shadow shifted. Suddenly, they both realized they weren’t alone.
How does the standoff end? Does one PI turn on the other, or do they realize Sal set them both up? Write the final scene and close the case.
