“Longing” A Poem in Search of Beauty by Friedric von Schiller

Longing by Friedrich von Schiller

Could I from this valley drear,
Where the mist hangs heavily,
Soar to some more blissful sphere,
Ah! how happy should I be!
Distant hills enchant my sight,
Ever young and ever fair;
To those hills I’d take my flight
Had I wings to scale the air.

Harmonies mine ear assail,
Tunes that breathe a heavenly calm;
And the gently-sighing gale
Greets me with its fragrant balm.
Peeping through the shady bowers,
Golden fruits their charms display.
And those sweetly-blooming flowers
Ne’er become cold winter’s prey.

In you endless sunshine bright,
Oh! what bliss ‘twould be to dwell!
How the breeze on yonder height
Must the heart with rapture swell!
Yet the stream that hems my path
Checks me with its angry frown,
While its waves, in rising wrath,
Weigh my weary spirit down.

See–a bark is drawing near,
But, alas, the pilot fails!
Enter boldly–wherefore fear?
Inspiration fills its sails,
Faith and courage make thine own,–
Gods ne’er lend a helping-hand;
‘Tis by magic power alone
Thou canst reach the magic land!

What are you searching for? Everything you need is within you and close by.

Don’t overlook your treasures.

Today’s Inspiration ~ Searching for Happiness?

“Happiness is a butterfly, which when pursued, is always just beyond your grasp, but which,

if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you”.

~ Nathaniel Hawthorne

What If I Stopped Searching for What I Wanted . . .

What if I stopped searching for what I wanted and began searching for what I needed? It takes heaps of wisdom to understand the difference between what I want and what I need. The irony of the search is that when I find all I need I have all I want.

What if I Wandered?

What if I shied away from those with all the answers and joined up with wanderers? We seek certitude and where certitude doesn’t exist we fabricate illusions and facts to mask our insecurities. Wanderers are comfortable with insecurity. The more they wander and search, the closer they come to the truth. It’s there just beyond their grasp, waiting to be revealed..

Something to Think About

It takes a discerning reader to dig for the truth in news stories. The discerning reader searches multiple sources and tries to collect the pieces to the puzzle that reveal the truth of a situation or event. Even with a deep search, it still is possible to be missing several pieces to complete the puzzle. Paying attention to only media sources that reflect our philosophy leaves aa big hole in understanding of what is true or false. It takes more time to dig deeper into different sources of news stories; the search, however, yields a much clearer picture of reality.  As for me, I like to make up my own mind. I don’t want to surrender what I think or feel to a single media or governmental source.

Something to Think About

All of our paths, unique to each of us, converge as we search for the deepest meanings in our lives. We may use our paths to run away from discovering the deepest meaning in our lives. Yet, life has a curious way of pulling us back toward the search. The wise ones discover the deepest meanings in life early on. They are the mystics, sages, or prophets who see things the rest of us have yet to see.  For many, the discovery of the deepest meaning in life is like peeling an onion, layer by layer. It takes time and patience. It’s worth the effort.

Something to Think About

Shouting, hollering, and denial can’t change the truth. When we seek the truth we look beyond the noise in search of discovery. Those who sincerely search for truth know that their search does not always yield the results they want. Yet, truth searchers are open to letting verifiable facts change their thinking. There was a time when many thought the world was flat; truth search kept searching and discovered the world wasn’t flat.

A Better Life ~ Finding Happiness

If I can’t figure out how to be happy where I am, how will I figure it out where I want to go? Happiness happens now, in this moment, in this place. It’s up to us to figure it out. Happiness is waiting for us in this moment, we have to open the door to let it in.

Today’s Good Word ~ Search

We’re always searching for something. What are you searching for? We may not think about it often, but I believe we’re searching for meaning. We’re searching to discover why we’re alive and what we are supposed to do with the life we have. Searching for life’s meaning is not meant for the faint of heart. It takes courage to commit to this search. We may discover that what we were searching for is not where our search is leading us. Our search for meaning may be leading us down a road we’d never choose, yet, once it takes us down this road, we have no choice but to continue the search. What we will discover will change our lives. Our search will lead us to our life’s purpose and a deep understanding why it is meant for us and us alone.
