There’s a big difference between being alone and feeling lonely. Being comfortable in one’s ‘aloneness’ begins with one learning to love oneself, warts and all. When that happens the person in the mirror becomes a best friend and loneliness disappears.

When I moved away from home and began to create a life different from being a child and living with my parents, I called home frequently to connect with my mom and dad. When they died, I was sad at the loss, but I felt no regrets. I loved them and they knew I loved them.Â

I think of the moments in my life where I was the happiest. I think about what was happening and who was there. What was it about these moments that brought me happiness? How can I make more of them happen? I know it is possible.

I’ve met lots of people whom I could emulate. I lots of folks offered advice telling me to be more like . . . The one I liked best is me. Right or wrong, success or fail, I’ve always liked me. It helps me recognize the guy in the mirror.

Our senses constantly receive stimuli. Often, we react to the stimuli with thinking about an appropriate response. If we can slow down our response time to the stimuli to think about an appropriate way to respond, imagine how many problems we might resolve and how many new problems we will not create.

Treasure each moment. Give everyone who passes your way a kind word or a smile (the mask thing puts a damper on smiling but it won’t stop my eyes from sparkling). We have the moment, it is ours, the future is uncertain. Treasure the moment.
