Something to Think About

There’s your way. There’s my way. If we’re stubborn, we’ll never see the myriad of other ways. Our paralyzed positions cause more harm as each side seeks power over the other. It happens all the time, it only works until the other side regains power and the harmful cycle continues. The courageous believe working together different sides can find a better way even if they can’t see it at the time.

Today, keep track of how often you laugh versus how often you find yourself angry or upset. Laughter lights up the soul. Anger sets a fire to it. Finding it hard to laugh? Look for humor, it surrounds us. It’s in the face of a young child holding an ice cream cone. It’s in watching people dancing. It’s in eating a taco and getting the salsa all over our hands and face. It’s in the songs we sing aloud when we think no one is listening. C’mon, laugh and laugh loudly.

I’ve not met a person who hasn’t made mistakes. I’ve met some who believe they’ve never made a mistake. Mistakes are our best teachers. They teach us that what we’re doing isn’t working. The mistakes can be in our work, study, and our relationships. If we don’t want to make the same mistake again, we can study the mistake and choose a different way.

What do you want to be when you grow up? Children are frequently asked that question. Their answers change as they gain experience. Are you still growing? What do you want to be when you grow up? The way I see it, if we’re open to life, we never know what surprises life will offer. Age and other demographic descriptions make no difference to life’s surprises. It’s never to late, you’re not too young or too old, it’s all up to you when life surprises you. Say yes to the surprise and watch what wonderful things come your way.

It doesn’t matter if we make it over the finish line first if there is no one there to congratulate us. We make it together. In making it together we all have a piece of the action, we are all a part of the reason to celebrate.

At the moment it is 100 degrees and expected to rise to 104 degrees F (37.7 to 40 Celsius). There’s not much I can do about it. I’ve got to roll with it. I’ll probably be wishing for this day in January. It’s another life lesson taught to us by nature. When we can’t do anything about it, it’s best to adapt, adjust, and roll with it. I think I’ll have a tall glass iced tea, pick up a good book, and salute the sun.

Mark Twain said, “If you don’t read the newspaper, you’re uninformed. If you read the newspaper, you’re mis-informed.” What he said many years ago applies to all news sources today, digital and printed. Because someone said it, doesn’t make it true. If it’s important, verify the information. Where does the weight of evidence lie? The evidence may not be where we want it to be, failure to listen to the weight of the evidence makes us pawns of the person who makes the false statements.

Something to Think About

If you’re unhappy where you are, chances are you’ll be unhappy wherever you go. It’s a fact. Happiness comes from within. Often times it’s a matter of changing an attitude toward what’s in front of us. We may be unhappy at work, yet, if we were watching our worksite on reality TV we might be laughing. This morning a country western song (is there any other type of song in Texas? LOL) where the singer spoke about a baby boy crying with a fury showing he was ready to take on the world. Happiness comes from within and is filtered through our attitudes and the way we look at world. If you’re happy now, chances you’ll be happy tomorrow.

Each day is an open book. We may have plans, checklists, and goals set for the day. Sometimes, the day listens to us and lets us think we’re in control. Other times, the day laughs at us and lets us know we were never in charge. Our day is filled with interruptions, unexpected events, and all sorts of upheaval. However our day plays out, we can make the most of every moment whether we intended the moment or not.

One of my earliest memories is my mom taking me to library and getting me a library card. I’ve been a friend of libraries and books since that moment. I read for ideas, knowledge, and entertainment. The more I read, the more I learn about others and myself. I have my favorite genres and authors. I’m always on the hunt for something new. The more we read, the more we become connected and the more we have our set ways of thinking challenged.
