Feel Good Tip of the Day ~ Let it Slide

Some folks believe you have to answer each criticism with a strong defense and go on the attack. To me that’s wasted energy. It’s better to let it slide. The moment we give the criticism or the person doing the criticism our attention it becomes the moment we cede control to them. Let the criticism drift on by and get on with matters and people more important and meaningful. You’ll feel better and they’ll get the message that you’re not interested in playing their game.

Poem of the Day ~ Friendship

Friendship

Henry David Thoreau

I think a while of Love, and while I think,
Love is to me a world,
Sole meat and sweetest drink,
And close connecting link
Tween heaven and earth.

I only know it is, not how or why,
My greatest happiness;
However hard I try,
Not if I were to die,
Can I explain.

I fain would ask my friend how it can be,
But when the time arrives,
Then Love is more lovely
Than anything to me,
And so I’m dumb.

For if the truth were known, Love cannot speak,
But only thinks and does;
Though surely out ’twill leak
Without the help of Greek,
Or any tongue.

A man may love the truth and practise it,
Beauty he may admire,
And goodness not omit,
As much as may befit
To reverence.

But only when these three together meet,
As they always incline,
And make one soul the seat,
And favorite retreat,
Of loveliness;

When under kindred shape, like loves and hates
And a kindred nature,
Proclaim us to be mates,
Exposed to equal fates
Eternally;

And each may other help, and service do,
Drawing Love’s bands more tight,
Service he ne’er shall rue
While one and one make two,
And two are one;

In such case only doth man fully prove
Fully as man can do,
What power there is in Love
His inmost soul to move
Resistlessly.

______

Two sturdy oaks I mean, which side by side,
Withstand the winter’s storm,
And spite of wind and tide,
Grow up the meadow’s pride,
For both are strong

Above they barely touch, but undermined
Down to their deepest source,
Admiring you shall find
Their roots are intertwined
Insep’rably.

Poem for Today ~ It is a Beauteous Evening, Clear and Free

It is a Beauteous Evening, Clear and Free

William Wordsworth

It is a beauteous evening, calm and free,
The holy time is quiet as a Nun
Breathless with adoration; the broad sun
Is sinking down in its tranquility;
The gentleness of heaven broods o’er the Sea;
Listen! the mighty Being is awake,
And doth with his eternal motion make
A sound like thunder—everlastingly.
Dear child! dear Girl! that walkest with me here,
If thou appear untouched by solemn thought,
Thy nature is not therefore less divine:
Thou liest in Abraham’s bosom all the year;
And worshipp’st at the Temple’s inner shrine,
God being with thee when we know it not.

Inspiring Quote for today ~ Unleash Your Creative Spirit

“There is a creative spirit in you desiring to be free, and you may as well get out of its way for it will give you no peace until you do.”

Feeling Good Tip of the Day ~ Breathe the Tension Away

Loosen up Your Tight Shoulders and Clinched Jaw

You’re tense, your shoulders are tight, and you feel as though you just might “lose it.” We all know that feeling.

Instinct may tell you to take a long, deep breath to calm yourself down. Turns out, that instinct is a good one. Research supports the fact that slow breathing and deep breathing exercises can help reduce stress.

The next time you feel stressed or are at your wit’s end, work through these steps:

    1. Close your eyes. Try to envision a happy memory or beautiful place.
    2. Take a slow, deep breath in through your nose.
    3. Slowly breathe out through your mouth or nose.
    4. Repeat this process several times until you start to feel yourself calm down.

If you’re having a hard time taking slow, deliberate breaths, try counting to 5 in your head with each inhale and exhale.

Poem of the Day ~ Return

Return

Sterling A. Brown

I have gone back in boyish wonderment
To things that I had foolishly put by. . . .
Have found an alien and unknown content
In seeing how some bits of cloud-filled sky
Are framed in bracken pools; through chuckling hours
Have watched the antic frogs, or curiously
Have numbered all the unnamed, vagrant flowers,
That fleck the unkempt meadows, lavishly.

Or where a headlong toppling stream has stayed
Its racing, lulled to quiet by the song
Bursting from out the thickleaved oaken shade,
There I have lain while hours sauntered past—
I have found peacefulness somewhere at last,
Have found a quiet needed for so long.

Feeling Good Tip of the Day ~ Quieting the Mind Down

The human mind is designed to think and process information constantly. However, there are techniques you can use to calm your mind and reduce the number of thoughts you have, which can be helpful for relaxation and focus.

Here are a few techniques you can try:

  1. Mindfulness Meditation: Sit quietly and focus your attention on your breath or a specific sensation. When your mind wanders, gently bring it back to your breath or sensation without judgment.
  2. Deep Breathing: Take deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. Focus on the sensation of the breath filling your lungs and releasing through your mouth.
  3. Exercise: Engage in physical activities like jogging, swimming, or cycling to release pent up energy and clear your mind.
  4. Journaling: Write down your thoughts in a journal. This helps you to process your thoughts and clear your mind.
  5. Progressive Muscle Relaxation: Tense and then relax each muscle group in your body starting from your toes and working your way up to your head. This helps release tension and reduce stress.

Remember, these techniques take practice, so be patient with yourself. With regular practice, you can train your mind to focus and relax, which can lead to a more peaceful state of mind.
