“Song of Myself” Poem by Walt Whitman

” I celebrate myself, and sing myself,
And what I assume you shall assume,
For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you. “

– Walt Whitman

“Who Never Lost” Poem by Emily Dickinson

Who Never Lost

Who never lost, are unprepared
A Coronet to find!
Who never thirsted
Flagons, and Cooling Tamarind!

Who never climbed the weary league –
Can such a foot explore
The purple territories
On Pizarro’s shore?

How many Legions overcome –
The Emperor will say?
How many Colors taken
On Revolution Day?

How many Bullets bearest?
Hast Thou the Royal scar?
Angels! Write “Promoted”
On this Soldier’s brow!

– Emily Dickinson

Something to think About

“Love not what you are but only what you may become.” Miguel de Cervantes

What do you want to become? Do you dare dream of the impossible, the absurd? What limitations are holding you back? Are the self-imposed? Reach for the stars. They’re waiting for you.

Something to Think About

The richest and fullest lives attempt to achieve an inner balance between three realms: work, love and play.

Erik Erikson

Reflect on your life. Is it in balance? Is it out of balance? Which one of the three work, love, and play needs to be brought back into balance.

Your reflection can become a starting place to begin living a balanced life. Share ideas with readers that you find helpful.

Something to Think About

“At the center of your being
you have the answer;
you know who you are
and you know what you want.”

– Lao Tzu

Have you experienced a moment when you grasped a glimpse of the meaning for your life? What was that moment like? Where were you? What were you doing? Is it as true today as it was at that moment?

Something to Think About

“Imagination creates reality.”

Richard Wagner

Can you recall a time when you imagined something you wanted to happen, then worked toward making it become a reality? What was it? How did you feel when you turned your imagination into reality?

Today’s Quote by Edward Everett Hale on Living Life

“To look up and not down,
To look forward and not back,
To look out and not in, and
To lend a hand.

Edward E. Hale.

Something To Think About

“Are you in earnest? Seize this very minute
What you can do, or dream you can; begin it;
Boldness has genius, power magic in it.
Only engage, and then the mind grows heated;
Begin and then the work will be completed.”  Goethe.

What is your dream? Is it bold enough to honor the creative spirit and genius alive within you? What can you do to boldy step forward in your quest?

Something to Think About

The reading of all good books is like a conversation with the finest minds of past centuries. ~ Rene Descartes

What book has had a great influence on you?
For me, one book that has greatly influenced me was Victor Frankl’s “Man’s Search for Meaning.” Another book is Ray Bradbury’s “Zen of Writing.”

Something to Think About

“One may well ask: “How can you advocate breaking some laws and obeying others?” The answer lies in the fact that there are two types of laws: just and unjust. I would be the first to advocate obeying just laws. One has not only a legal but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws. I would agree with St. Augustine that “an unjust law is no law at all.”” ~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (excerpt from Letter from a Birmingham Jail).

Can you recall a time when you challenged a policy or directive or rule that you believed was wrong? It can be a lonely struggle. What was your situation?
