💡 Something to Think About

Life would be a heck of lot easier if it were a straight line. It would be more predictable. Life is more like a winding road, with hairpin turns, and driving through the mountains with no guardrail to prevent us from going over the edge if we’re not careful. The ride isn’t for the timid. Don’t hide from the road. You can handle the twists and turns. Oh, there will be times when you grip the wheel with both hands, not to worry, you’ll make it. When you do hit straight piece of road, you’ll take a look over your shoulder and think, “Yes, I did. I did it. It couldn’t stop me.”

💡 Something to Think About

Do you live in a ghost town? I see lots of ghost towns. Folks stay locked inside their homes or apartments. Neighbors don’t know each other. Oh, they’ll wave and say hi, but they don’t know each other’s name. It happens in large apartment buildings too. Ride down the elevator and people stare at smart phones, the numbers passing on the elevator without saying a word to each other. When we connect with each other, we build a sense of community. We discover our neighbors are much like us. Our world becomes a whole lot friendlier.

💡 Something to Think About

Storms don’t last forever, they come to an end. When we endure life’s storms, we may wonder if they’ll ever end. Have you had that experience? I’ve had it. When it happens there are times when we wonder if we’ll have the strength to make it to tomorrow. If we endure the storm, it’s winds slowly decrease, breaks in the clouds appear, and one day a rainbow appears in the sky. Hang in there. Never quit. Take the next step. The storms will end and blue skies will appear again.

💡 Something to Think About

Society places a premium on physical beauty. Many people go to great lengths to meet society’s standard. The most beautiful people I’ve met have an inner glow that shines and warms everyone who passes their way. Their hearts beat out a song of love. Their eyes sparkle and shout, “how are you, I hope you’re doing well.” Their entire being radiates a warmth that heats a mid winter’s day. These are my beautiful people.

💡 Something to Think About

Why me? I’ve heard lots folks complain about life’s unfairness and question, why me. Life is unfair. It always will be. We may not like it, but we don’t have to feel powerless. We can accept it as a fact. We can make the best of it. We can view what life dishes out and make it our piece of granite to chisel a masterpiece.

💡 Something to Think About

We are habit driven people. We form habits as naturally as we breathe. Habits make life easier. For example, how often do you think of your going to work habit? It’s as if our feet or other form of transportation does the thinking for us. Our habits are working subconsciously. Habits can also be counterproductive. They can prevent us from becoming the people we are meant to become. Is it time to name and review your daily habits? Once you name them, you can decide wether or not the habit is helping you or harming you. It’s not easy to break a harmful habit. Habits don’t fight fairly, they’ll use smells, sights, and any excuse to keep you hooked. You’re stronger than any harmful habit. You’ll make the right choices. And, if you fall, you rise and begin again.

💡 Something to Think About

Feeling stuck? Don’t know what to do? Don’t wait for someone to knock on the door to do whatever you need to do for you. Do something, anything, now.  If it doesn’t work, do something different. When we are immobile, we’re going nowhere, we remain frozen. It’s better to take a chance, fail, and try again. Chances are good that whatever you choose to do will work out.

💡 Something to Think About

When I engage with others, I listen to their stories. They tell me about experiences I’ll never have. I listen to opinions that never entered my mind. I listen to stories of love, tragedies, and dreams broken or made. When we take the time to listen to another’s stories, we learn, new ideas come to mind, and we acquire a deep compassion for a person whose journey was far different from ours.

💡 Something to Think About

I know folks who seek happiness in the past. I also know folks who seek happiness in the future. Both choices are as illusive as a mirage in the desert. Happiness is now, this moment, in the place I find myself. Happiness  doesn’t just happen. It happens in a happiness nurtured environment. And, in most cases, it happens through the interaction with others.

💡 Something to Think About

Leaders of nations often use the phrase, “red line” to indicate a line where the leaders feel they must make a stand. What is your red line in terms of your values? Our personal red lines define our character. They are in an indication of the “stuff” that makes us up. It takes courage to say in the words of Martin Luther, “Here I stand, I can do no other.”
