Something to Think About

Do you have the perfection bug? There is no vaccine to cure it. Think about perfection for a second. Whatever we do, we can do better. Perfection is an illusive goal. One that can’t be achieved. Seeking self improvement is quite different from perfection. Seeking self improvement is a form of humility acknowledging that we are not perfect. Whenever the perfection bug takes a nip out of me, I marvel at a beautiful southwest sunset and know in my heart no painter could ever create or recreate the sunset I am viewing. I return to a place where I am happy with who I am and where I am.

Something to Think About

When we love another, we no longer think about ourselves, we think about the other. Whatever we do, we do for the other. It’s as if, after a long search, we finally found ourselves in the other. We wonder what life was like before we met the other. I hope you’ve found love in your life and it never lets go of you.

It’s the digital age, information and noise hold hands and are ubiquitous. The only thing left out is you and me. When we temporarily stop the flow of information and noise we capture moments for ourselves. Our minds refresh. We gain clarity as our brains sort the information into bins of useful an useless. Think it’s time to unplug for a few moments?

We’re getting rain in south Texas today. The rain is sorely needed. I was tempted to run out in the street and sing and dance. Small things are big things. It’s true in our natural setting like getting rain during a drought period. It’s true with each other when we offer each other small kindnesses throughout the day.

If you’re a poker player, you know you have to play the hand you’re dealt. You can discard a few cards and hope you catch a bit of luck with their replacements. We still have to play the cards in our hand. It’s that way with life. We have to play the hand we’re dealt. How we play the hand we’re dealt determines the direction of our lives. If the hand you’ve been dealt isn’t a good one, hang in there, the very next hand may be the big winner.
