Today’s Good Word ~ Nourishment

Nourishment – Def: food that you need to grow and stay healthy.

It’s important to nourish our bodies with the right foods if we want to live a healthy, active lives. Nourishment can also be applied to how we nourish our minds. We can use the computer science word GIGO (garbage in – garbage out) to describe what happens to us when we nourish our minds, with garbage. What we put into our minds, shapes our thinking. Our thinking shapes our actions. When we poorly feed our minds, our actions reflect the poor choices we make. Conversely, if we take care in nourishing our minds with what helps us to be more fully human, more fully alive, our lives soon reflect that nourishment. We begin to unleash our unlimited potential.

Today’s Good Word ~ Inspiring

Inspiring ~ Def: encouraging, or making you feel you want to do something

I like being around people who inspire me. They inspire me by example, words, or challenging me to lift my game. Inspiring people let us know we can be better, do better, and reach for things we thought were beyond us. There is a an elderly woman who lives in my neighborhood. She needs a walker to get around. Does that stop her. No. She drives a large pickup truck, works in her garden, and lives alone. She’s an inspiration. I know a physical therapist who is one of nine children and she is the first in her family to go to college and graduate. She is an inspiration. I see men and women who lost legs in combat wearing prosthetics and not letting the loss of a limb limit them. They are an inspiration. We inspire others through the lives we lead. Our actions speak significantly louder than preached words. Let your life become an inspiring example to all who pass your way.

Today’s Good Word ~ Sunshine

Sunshine – Def: (1) the light and heat that come from the sun. (2) happiness or pleasure.

All living beings need the sunshine. We can’t survive without it. Sunshine is great metaphor. When we bring the sunshine to others, we share a spirit of joy and happiness. Our smile radiates our warmth, our eyes sparkle with a deep happiness, and we give off a vibe that everything, no matter had bad it might be, is going to work out. When we bring the sunshine to others, we lift their spirits, light up their darkness, and leave them feeling better than when we entered their orbit. They now walk with a smile and the sun and blue sky overhead. C’mon, life is good, bring the sunshine.

Today’s Good Word ~ Anticipation

Anticipation – Def: a feeling of excitement about something that is going to happen in the near future

As a child I remember anticipating Christmas. I couldn’t wait for Christmas and my excitement grew by the day. I still anticipate Christmas. I enjoy being with friends and family. I enjoy going to church on Christmas Day. The event matched my anticipation. Anticipation is a healthy emotion when we anticipate positive results, a good time, and a new adventure. Anticipation ignites a spark of life within us. We get our passports ready, we buy airplane tickets, we buy new clothes, and we eagerly await our trip. Once we arrive, we anticipate the new things we’ll see, the new foods we will try, and the new people we will meet. Set yourself up for a healthy dose of anticipation. It’s healthy to anticipate adventures, positive outcomes, and good times. You deserve it. Don’t wait now is the time.

You’ve seen them. They don’t need coffee or sugar. They’re high on life. They’re high on being around other vital people who want to face challenges, conquer the challenges and move on to the next challenge. They are confident that whatever the world tosses at them, they’ll scoop it up and toss it right back. They’re not sleepwalking through life. They’re soaring. C’mon, show your vitality. Today’s Good Word ~ Action

Action – Def: the process of doing something, especially when dealing with a problem or difficulty

If you want to dance, you have to walk on the dance floor. If you want to play in the game, you have to get out of the stands and get on the field. Action is a difference maker. Fear of failing or not receiving someone’s approval move one into the freezer where action impossible. We can’t have certitude in our actions. They have to play out and be judged by the outcomes they produce. We can have certitude if we don’t act. Things will stay the same or get worse. If you have an idea or a gut impulse, give it thought, ask for advice, but act on it. I’ve known people who wait for a better day to act. They scan the horizon for everything to fall into place. They fail to realize that things fall into place after we act. It’s as if the universe dares us to try before cooperating with us. Have no fear. Take action. Dare to fail. Dare to succeed. Dare.

Today’s Good Word ~ Curiosity

Curiosity – Def: an eager wish to know or learn about something

Young children are curious. As their mobility increases, so does their desire to figure out the world around them even if it is dangerous. When we are curious, we ask questions. We’re not satisfied with things the way they are. Curious people ask why. And, they ask, why not. Often, when we are curious, we step on other people’s toes because we are challenging their long accepted ways of doing things. Curiosity is a pathway to growth. it is a pathway to learning. Be curious. Let your curiosity challenge your thinking. Let your curiosity ask if there is a better or different way. You never know what you’ll discover.

Today’s Good Word ~ Declutter

Declutter – Def: to remove things you do not need from a place, in order to make it more pleasant and more useful.

Is it time to declutter? Are the closets full of clothes you haven’t worn this year? I have a personal guideline, if I don’t wear it during the season, I give it to a charitable organization. We can declutter our homes and work spaces, it simplifies things. The fewer things I have, the less I have to worry about. Emotional decluttering is as important as physical decluttering. When we hold on to anger, resentment, and grudges we’re weighed down. Holding onto harmful emotions is like taking a pan out of a hot oven without oven mitts. When we declutter our harmful emotions, we create a healthy emotional environment where healthy emotions grow. We were meant to fly. I’m off to do some decluttering. C’mon, join me.
