🤗 Feel Good Hack ~ Grateful, Grateful, Grateful

Offer Gratitude

Whatever you have in life and wherever you are, you can find some reason to be grateful. Today, you may be anxious, but you showed up, for instance. Acknowledging your own good fortune—no matter how seemingly slight or minimal at the moment—can actually enhance your overall well-being.

Researchers have found that being truly grateful for what you have can yield important physical benefits—we sleep better and enjoy better relationships! Researchers have also found that your level of gratitude is inversely proportion to your level of depressed feelings or sadness. The more grateful you are in life, the better the chances are that you will actually enjoy what you have!

🤗 Feel Good Hack ~ Beat the Blues

When You’re Feeling Lonely, Do This …

Did you know that simply imagining that you are being smiled at by someone you love is just as powerfully healing as having that person present?

Close your eyes for a moment. Now, imagine being with someone you love and who cares about you and who isn’t here with you today. Now, imagine this person offering you a warm smile. Once you’ve locked that image in place, take a deep breath and slowly open your eyes. Did you find you were smiling just thinking about that special person’s smile? Did you feel warmth around their heart, like a hug, as you imagined that person? Yep, it works almost every time!

🤗 Feel Good Hack ~ It’s A Balancing Act

Balance work and play.

You know the saying, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” If you spend most of your time burning the candle at both ends, it can take a real toll on your physical, mental and emotional health. Constant stress leads to high cortisol levels, which will impact your sleep, increase your risk of diabetes and heart disease, and lead to weight gain. Like anything in life, striving for balance will help alleviate stress, improve your happiness and allow you to see your greatest potential. Find time to do something that makes you happy and truly fulfills you. Do you love being in nature, taking pictures or painting? Carve out time each day to do something you love.

🤗 Feel Good Hack ~ You Can Do It ~ Smile

Make Cheerfulness Your Default Demeanor

There are plenty of old songs that encourage us to “put on a happy face” or “smile when your heart is breaking,” or “don’t worry, be happy.” Many of us may feel a little confused about why we are always encouraging people to “lie” to themselves.

Actually, there is a Zen koan or saying that states simply, “Practice smiling while peeling carrots.” My yoga instructor always encourages us to smile during the most difficult poses. She asks the question, “Are you smiling because you are happy or are you happy because you are smiling?”

🍎 Health Hack ~ A Healthier You in 2020

Create a health vision.

A health vision is critical to clearly visualize your [health] goals. The first step is to create a powerful, broad statement that describes who you want to be once you have met those goals. Think about a healthy future and what that might look like to you. Convert those thoughts into a short, clear statement: your health vision.

While there are many ways to write a health vision, one popular format is: “I want ______, so ________.” Examples include:

  • “I want to lose weight, so I have more energy to enjoy life.”
  • “I want to be physically fit, so I am no longer out of breath.”
  • “I want to have better balance between my work and personal life, so I have more quality time for myself and for my family.”

🤗 Feel Good Hack ~ The Power of Yet

I read an article in Psychology Today where the author describes how he uses the word “yet” to help people whose life outlook is clouded with deep despair and lack of hope. I’ve always been an optimist and his words resonated with me. I hope they will resonate with you. Never quit. Never give up. A new day awaits. We have another chance. Hang on.

Adding the word “yet” to pessimistic or doomful predictions often gets a patient’s attention and introduces the possibility that their strong beliefs in a negative future outcome may not be entirely accurate. At least there is someone else—someone with some credibility—who is not ready to automatically accept their hopelessness.

“I know that I will never find someone to marry!” becomes “I haven’t found someone to marry yet.” “We will never be able to work things out!” becomes “we have not been able to work things out yet.” No, there is nothing magical about adding this word; however, it does introduce a measure of hope into the proceedings without which a change effort may not fare well. Simply stated, people work toward change differently when they believe that change can actually occur.

🤗 Feel Good Hack ~ Start Planning the Vacation

Take Time Off

It’s a time when you can bond with family and friends, which is good for your mental and physical health. People who take more vacations live longer and are less likely to have heart disease and other health problems.

Feel Good Hack ~ You Are In Charge

You Are In Charge of Your Choices. You have the right to change your mind or your direction at any time. You don’t need to feel that you owe anyone anything more than you want to give with your free and conscious heart. Anyone who mistreats you, is disrespectful of your wishes, refuses to hear you, and has no intention of changing is trouble with a capital T. Be ready to walk away without fear or guilt, and don’t look back.

🍎 Health Hack ~ We Can Do This!

Get Up and Get Moving

Aim for a total of 150 minutes a week of moderate-intensity exercise (brisk walking, ballroom dancing, active yoga, leisurely biking) or 75 minutes a week of vigorous-intensity exercise (jogging, running, tennis, biking, swimming laps). If you’re not currently active, your doctor can help you plan reasonable starting goals, bearing in mind your general health. Keep in mind that even a little bit of daily physical activity, of any intensity, is better than none. And even very short bouts—less than 10 minutes, for instance—count toward your overall goal.

🤗 Feel Good Hack ~ Seeing Differently

When we aren’t feeling good about our lives, it’s usually because one or two things went wrong; we focus on these things; and we get obsessive to the point of not being able to see the good that is all around us. Yet, little moments of appreciation can make the difference between a good day and a bad one.

Remember a sunrise or sunset.

Appreciate someone.

Do something new.

Take time to count blessings (being grateful)
