I’ve read the advice, “Stay in the moment,” or something like it, numerous times. Intellectually, I know what it means. Making the advice actionable is a different story. Yesterday, I asked myself, “What’s on your plate?” The metaphor made sense to me for living in the moment. I can choose to put on my plate what I want to do. I can choose to leave off my plate those things that create anxiety and stress. What’s on your plate?

Hopefully a lot of writing and many books published. My dream! 🙂
Terveen, thank you for your comments, much appreciated. Don’t quit on your dreams. I share two personal examples. I recall an article I submitted for publication. I felt it was high quality and made an important contribution. It was rejected by one journal after another. Finally, a journal picked it up. After its publication, it was cited by numerous other journals. The second example relates to publishing a book. I was having no luck finding a publisher. One day I was sitting in my office reading student papers and an editor of a book company randomly stopped in and we chatted. When he left, he asked me to prepare a proposal based on our conversation and promised to send me a contract for my first book. I went on to write ten books in academia. Don’t Quit. Don’t Ever Quit. Shine on. Ray
This means a lot, Ray. Thank you. 🙂
