Today’s Poem ~ As Once The Winged Energy Of Delight

As Once The Winged Energy Of Delight
Rainer Maria Rilke
As once the winged energy of delight
carried you over childhood’s dark abysses,
now beyond your own life build the great
arch of unimagined bridges.Wonders happen if we can succeed
in passing through the harshest danger;
but only in a bright and purely granted
achievement can we realize the wonder.

To work with Things in the indescribable
relationship is not too hard for us;
the pattern grows more intricate and subtle,
and being swept along is not enough.

Take your practiced powers and stretch them out
until they span the chasm between two
contradictions…For the god
wants to know himself in you.

Today’s Power Thought ~ It’s Going to be Your Day

Make today one of those days where everywhere you look or travel, you’ll do it with a beaming smile on your face, a song on your lips, and sparkle in your eyes. You can feel it, today is going to be your day.

Today’s Power Thought ~ A Good Way to Travel

We travel a lot further when it’s our way and not my way. Weaving our way through the field of compromise brings big benefits.

Today’s Health Tip ~ How We Eat Can Influence Our Weight

Simply eating slower and chewing more often may help you eat less

The pace at which you eat influences how much you eat, as well as how likely you are to gain weight. In fact, studies comparing different eating speeds show that fast eaters are much more likely to eat more and have a higher body mass index (BMI) than slow eaters.

Your appetite, how much you eat, and how full you get are all controlled by hormones. Hormones signal to your brain whether you’re hungry or full. However, it takes about 20 minutes for your brain to receive these messages. That’s why eating more slowly may give your brain the time it needs to perceive that you’re full. Studies have confirmed this, showing that eating slowly may reduce the number of calories you consume at meals and help you lose weight (4Trusted Source). Eating slowly is also linked to more thorough chewing, which has also been linked to improved weight control.

Think About It

There are times in life when life asks us to take a stand. The moment doesn’t last long, but it defines us. It marks us as a person of courage who knows his/her values and is willing to stand on the foundation his/her value-driven life built. When one doesn’t have a strong set of values, he/she is not sure of where to stand. It’s as if they want to poll the people around them to test if the stand they take will be popular. Know your values, live them, stand on the foundation they built for you and you’ll live a life of honor and integrity.

A Better Life ~ What to do with Leftovers

After a large holiday get together there are lots of left overs. We figure out what we’ll do with the leftovers. Some we will use to go into meals. Other leftovers we will have to eventually toss out as they turn bad. Our life experiences are lot like leftovers. We have to figure out what to do with them. Some we can make use of and others we have to toss away. Keep the good leftovers from your experience and put them to use. Discard the rest.

What if I took stock of my friends, what would I discover?

“When you have an ass for a friend, expect nothing but kicks (Indian proverb).” What if I took stock of my friends, what would I discover? Would I discover I have friends I can count on? Would my friends encourage me to go after my dreams? Do my friends hold me back. Do I come away from meeting with friends with a negative feeling? The kinds of friends we have make all the difference in our lives. Choose wisely and be a good friend in return.

Today’s Joke

Today’s Inspiration ~ One Way to Look

‘Keep your face always toward the sunshine – and shadows will fall behind you.’

Today’s Poem ~ Loss and Gain

Loss And Gain
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Virtue runs before the muse
And defies her skill,
She is rapt, and doth refuse
To wait a painter’s will.

Star-adoring, occupied,
Virtue cannot bend her,
Just to please a poet’s pride,
To parade her splendor.

The bard must be with good intent
No more his, but hers,
Throw away his pen and paint,
Kneel with worshippers.

Then, perchance, a sunny ray
From the heaven of fire,
His lost tools may over-pay,
And better his desire.
