There was never a night or a problem that could defeat sunrise or hope. ~ Bernard Williams
NOTE: I like sunrises. I’m an early bird so I catch the sunrise each morning. This morning I stepped outside as dawn was breaking. I was greeted by light in the eastern sky and birds singing to welcome the day. I joined the birds and welcomed the day with arms open wide. What surprises will greet me today? Who will I meet? What adventures will come my way? I am excited to begin my day’s journey. I’ve a few plans. Who knows, I may toss my plans aside and go with the flow. Today is meant for you and me. It is meant to enjoy, to fill it with love, and marvel at its mysteries.

“Nurture your mind with great thoughts, for you will never go any higher than you think.” –Benjamin Disraeli
I’ve shut the door on yesterday,
It sorrows and mistakes;
I’ve locked within its gloomy walls
Past failures and heartaches
And now I throw the key away
To seek another room
And furnish it with hope and smiles,
And every springtime bloom.
No thought shall enter this abode
That has a hint of pain,
And every malice and distrust
Shall never therein reign.
I’ve shut the door on yesterday
And thrown the key away—
Tomorrow holds no doubt for me,
Since I have found today.

Welcome to Episode 73 of Journey from Grief to Healing with Dr. Ray Calabrese. This episode is aptly titled ‘Lost & Found’, and in it, Dr. Ray draws a parallel between the experience of being physically lost and the emotional state of grieving. He vividly recounts a childhood memory of getting lost at a beach, and the panic and then relief on being found – an emotional journey we often mirror in our path through grief.
When we grieve, we often feel lost and panicked, unable to connect the dots or make sense of our surroundings. This bewildering state of being, however, can also provide an opportunity for self-discovery. Dr. Ray emphasizes the importance of being emotionally balanced and grounded during this difficult time, as it is crucial to the healing process.
Drawing inspiration from Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat, Love, Pray, and writings of Henry David Thoreau and the Sufi mystic Rumi, Dr. Ray talks about looking at the world through your heart instead of your head. He encourages readers to perceive their grief as a teaching experience, highlighting how a wound can open one up to self-understanding and finding one’s true direction.
This episode concludes with a powerful message of hope as Dr. Ray encourages listeners to embrace their grief, and through it, emerge a changed person ready for their next adventure. Concluding with Tolkien’s words, he inspires listeners to move forward with faith, anticipating brighter days ahead, and maintaining an undying spirit of never quitting, never giving up.

There is always a way and always hope in the next sunrise, and in the next second, and in the next minute. ~ Ziggy Marley
NOTE: Some days are rough, really, rough. We can sink into depression and crazy thoughts run through our minds. If we hang on, things change. They always change. The tough times get behind us. We see a break in the clouds. Suddenly our spirit lifts on a gentle breeze. There’s always a chance if we don’t give up. There is a way through and we’ll find it if we don’t give in to the dark forces. Hang on. Hang on. The sun will surely shine again for you. You can count on it.
