I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I feel my fate in what I cannot fear.
I learn by going where I have to go.
We think by feeling. What is there to know?
I hear my being dance from ear to ear.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
Of those so close behind me, which are you?
God bless the Ground! I shall walk softly there,
And learn by going where I have to go.
Light takes the Tree; but who can tell us how?
The lonely worm climbs up a winding stair;
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
Great Nature has another thing to do
To you and me; so take the lively air;
And, lovely, learn by going where to go.
This shaking keeps me steady. I should know.
What falls away is always. And is near.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I learn by going where I have to go.
“I was dead, then alive.
Weeping, then laughing.
The power of love came into me,
and I became fierce like a lion,
then tender like the evening star.”
There’s a nice Texas folksy saying about parenting. Give your children and nest and wings. I like it. We all need a place called home. Home isn’t a geographical location or a building. It’s a place where one feels secure. It’s a place where one feels loved. It’s a place where one is accepted as he or she is, no questions asked. Home is what happens inside a structure. Size doesn’t matter. It can a simple trailer or a mansion. If love resides there it is a home.

(_Prologue to “The Two Poets of Croisic.”_)
Such a starved bank of moss
Till, that May-morn,
Blue ran the flash across:
Violets were born!
Sky–what a scowl of cloud
Till, near and far,
Ray on ray split the shroud:
Splendid, a star!
World–how it walled about
Life with disgrace,
Till God’s own smile came out:
That was thy face!

I live in south Texas. The weather is usually hot and dry. When we get storms, they tend to be doozies. Last night around 12:30 a hail storm woke me up. This one was a doozie. It lasted for 30 minutes. My yard was covered with hailstones. By daybreak the hailstones had melted but the storm left plenty of leaves and branches to clean up. Got to roll with it. That’s how it is with a lot of things. We may not like them, but we got to roll with them if we want to get through.
