Today’s Thought: Don’t Get Conned

When my daughters were young I’d tell them bedtime stories every night. They looked forward to the stories. When I was too tired or not in the right mood to tell them a story, they’d beg. What dad can resist that kind of pressures, right? The stories were purely fictional but my daughters listened to them as if they were real and happening in real time. That time was a wonderful age of innocence for them.. Fast forward to today. Some people can tell complete fabrications and people believe them. That’s what conmen do. They gain our confidence and then we believe what they are saying. A good way to test a conman is to ask him/her to show proof. They’ll usually weave a twisted tale to take your mind off the subject and you won’t realize they never answered your question until you’ve been swindled.

Today’s Thought: Truth Matters

Truth matters. It matters the same way honesty and respect matter. We set ourselves up to be hurt or disappointed when we believe what we are told at face value. The only time I think taking what I am told at face value is from someone I’ve known and learned to trust. When I discover someone is lying, I make an assumption if they’ll lie in one matter, they’ll lie in other matters as well. Trust is something earned over time. Be wise, check out the facts. Don’t let others tell you the facts.

Today’s Quote: Do You Dare to Fly?

Your hopes, dreams and aspirations are legitimate. They are trying to take you airborne, above the clouds, above the storms, if you only let them. ~ William James

Today’s Poem: Taking Things Easily by Patience Strong

Taking Things Easily

Patience Strong

Calm your mind, get quiet within
And hold yourself in check,
Try to do too much and you will end a nervous
                  Wreck.
Do not rush and tear through life,
Conserve your energy.
Keep on at a steady pace
And take things easily.
