We often set ourselves up to become anxious. This thought occurred to me as I watched a YouTube video of three sports commentators out of Boston. They were talking about the new New England Patriots football coach. The host of the show said he was worried because this or that negative thing may happen. He tossed out negative what ifs as if they were real instead of being constructed by him in the moment. His negative words pulled the other two people who were on the show with him into his negative loop. If we’re not monitoring our thoughts, they can confuse what’s real with what’s imaginary. If our mind lock on to the imaginary, our emotions follow closely behind. It’s better to focus on what’s real and discard imaginary thoughts or fantasies. We’ll discover greater personal peace.
