Writer’s Prompt: The Perfect Pigeon: A Gripping Noir Flash Fiction

Spread the love

A calculated gold digger thinks she holds all the cards—until her wealthy target plays the ultimate trick.

Poisoned Ambition

Gina Torres snapped the Queen of Hearts onto the King of Spades. Perfect fit.

Across the sunroom, Ralph Logan IV dozed in his leather armchair, the signed estate documents resting beside his empty teacup. His children had called her a parasite, but they didn’t understand the craft. Ralph was an empty vessel starving for devotion, and Gina had poured it on thick until the ink on the revised will was dry.

Easy Street was finally within reach.

Her clutch vibrated against the mahogany table. A single text from Harry the pharmacist: Special blend is ready. Drop by the alley behind the shop before 8 PM. Cash only.

Gina smiled, tucking the phone away. Harry actually believed he was getting twenty-five percent of an eight-figure payout. Men were sentimental creatures, blind to their own expiration dates. Once Ralph took his permanent nap, a little staged accident would handle Harry, tying off the final loose end.

She stood, smoothing her silk skirt, and walked over to the armchair. Ralph stirred, blinking up at her with watery, affectionate eyes.

“Gina, darling,” he murmured, his voice surprisingly steady. “I am going to make a new will tomorrow. I’m putting a condition in that you inherit everything if we are are. together for 10 more years..”

“Oh, Ralph Darling. Together forever,” Or until I get back from harry, Gina thought.

Does Gina win. How can Ralph get away from this gold digger?
