A friend is leaving for a trip. My friend is excited to be going places my friend has not previously visited or seen. Travel is important. It takes us away from what are used to seeing. It opens us up to different cultures and customs. Wherever my friend will travel, one thing will be constant, people may have different languages, but we’re all the same. We cry when we’re sad. We rejoice when we’re happy. If we don’t like the folks near us, we probably won’t like the folks far away from us. If we’re open to diversity and different perspectives when we’re home, chances are we’ll feel comfortable any place on planet Earth.

Today’s Thought: We Never Travel Solo
I recently traveled. I had a wonderful time and returned home filled with wonderful memories and stories. There were lots of people responsible for how well my trip turned out. There were the Lyft drivers, security check in folks at the airports, the pilots and crew on my flights. There were the Starbucks baristas who made my drinks at the airport. You get the idea. We may be traveling solo, but the success of our trip depends on many people, most we’ll never see again. Because they did their job, I had a great trip. Here’s to all who made it possible. CHEERS!
Today’s Poem: On Journey by Sakutaro Hagiwara
On Journey
Sakutaro Hagiwara
I’d like to be off to France,
But France is so frightfully far,
At the least though, I’ll pick out a brand new suit,
And mount on a trip carefree.
When the train starts up the overpass,
I’ll lean on the azure window
And think happy thoughts alone,
This May day at dawn,
Leaving it all to the new-grass-sprouting heart.
Feeling Good Tip ~ Doing Good Makes You Feel Good
Whenever I travel I see and meet so many wonderful people. On a recent flight, a tall man, lifted luggage out of the overhead bins for several older people. One passenger hollered, “Ma’am, you forgot your scarf. The woman was almost to the front of the plane. We all waited while the scarf was passed forward. A grateful woman took the scarf and said thank you. An elderly woman asked if someone could pass her luggage forward. It had been stored in overhead bin several rows behind her seat. Immediately, someone opened the bin, asked, “is this yours?” She said, “Yes.” The luggage was passed forward. There are many good people and they are the glue that holds it all together. I know you are one of the good people.

What will you resolve to do this year?
What will you resolve to do this year? Will you make resolutions to lose weight, go on a trip, fall in love, or change jobs? New year’s is a good time to take new chances. If you stumble working on your resolutions, laugh at the stumble, enjoy the misstep and begin again tomorrow. You may surprise yourself and make it by not taking your resolution so seriously.
Something to Think About
Traveling broadens our view. When we travel we find other people, from different cultures and belief systems are not too different from us. The more we travel, the more we discover how deeply we are connected. When we know another person, it is more difficult to dislike or hate the other person. This is true in our local communities as well as on a global scale. If we can withhold judgments and choose to learn, we have an opportunity to connect, learn, and create a friendship.
