Something to Think About ~ Don’t Give Up

Viktor Frankl’s book, Man’s Search for Meaning had a deep impact on my life. It was the basis for my doctoral dissertation. It became the foundational work for much of my research in higher education. I still treasure a typed letter from Viktor Frankl giving me advice on writing my dissertation. I am re-reading Man’s Search for Meaning (I’ve read it numerous times always gleaning some new insight). As I re-read Man’s Search for Meaning I will share Frankl’s insights with you and my take on how they apply to our contemporary lives.

Frankl describes a scene from a holocaust camp when he writes, “Thus, when we saw a comrade smoking his own cigarettes, we knew he had give up faith in his strength to carry on, and once lost, the w9ill to live seldom returned (pps 21-22).

I’ve witnessed the same phenomenon  in older men and women who suddenly stop taking care of their appearance or the space in which they live, it is as if one can see the cloud of death hovering over them. It’s not long before they die. Don’t give in, ever. Fight the thoughts that you are powerless. Fight the thoughts that life is not worth living. You and your life are important and even the smallest contribution to make life better for another is significant. You are needed.

Positive Thought for Today ~ You Got This

C’mon, it’s your day. You know it. You’ve climbed so many mountains, what’s one more to climb.

Bring it on, that’s your motto. You got this.

Positive Thought for Today ~ It’s the Little Things that Matter

Let the little things slide and your relationship will instantly improve. Be quick to forgive those who love you, you’ll tie the relationship binds tighter.

You’ll soon discover your life overflows with love.

Positive Thought for Today ~ Mirror Love and Kindness

When we lift the shade or open the binds light shines into our homes. It’s the same way when we open our hearts and minds to the light of truth, kindness, and love we become a mirror and reflect truth, kindness, and love to all who come our way.

Positive Thought for Today ~ Focus on the Right Stuff

Don’t allow one negative experience to take control of your day. It’s not always easy, especially if one is the recipient of an unkind act. Giving into it and letting it control our focus is tantamount to surrendering to the person who authored the unkind act. Focus on the good, focus on doing kind acts, focus on loving all those around you. You’ll be the winner.

Positive Thought for Today ~ Do the Tough Stuff First

Do the tough stuff first. You’ll feel better. There’s an internal switch that gives us a jolt of confidence when we tackle a tough chore and succeed.

Take the first step, the other foot will follow.

Positive Thought for Today ~ You’re Stronger than the Rest

If someone says your thoughts are foolish

You’re an independent thinker.

If someone says it’s impossible

You’ll prove they are wrong again.

You have an indomitable spirit

You don’t quit. You don’t give up.

Positive Thought for Today ~ Patience Pays Off on Many Levels

Patience Matters

We hear a lot about the importance of patience when striving for an important goal or reaching something we’v always dreamed about. How much more important is patience in waiting for someone we love to get their life together? I’ve witnessed families fall apart because there was no patience with one who is struggling to figure it out. I’ve also witnessed the opposite where families held the door open and waited and their waiting paid off in reconciliation. Patience does pay off on many different levels..

Positive Thought of the Day ~ What Will You Create Today?

Yesterday is gone, it’s history. Tomorrow will come with  the dawn. Today is where we’re at. We have a choice of being the creator of our present moment, or, dallying in the fantasy of yesterday or tomorrow. What we do today shapes what we will find tomorrow. It’s up to us to create the kind of day we desire. C’mon show your creative chops.

Positive Thought for the Day ~ You are Not Alone

“The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known struggle,

known loss, and have found their way out of those depths.” ~ Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

NOTE: You are not alone in your struggles, in the pain you are experiencing, in the great loss in your life. People throughout the world share the same experience and understand what you are experiencing because they share it with you. Life calls you to live, to transform your pain into something special. Make something good come from it. You can do it.
