Poem of the Day ~ If You Knew

If You Knew

Ruth Muskrat Bronson

If you could know the empty ache of loneliness,
          Masked well behind the calm indifferent face
Of us who pass you by in studied hurriedness,
          Intent upon our way, lest in the little space
Of one forgetful moment hungry eyes implore
          You to be kind, to open up your heart a little more,
I’m sure you’d smile a little kindlier, sometimes,
          To those of us you’ve never seen before.

If you could know the eagerness we’d grasp
          The hand you’d give to us in friendliness;
What vast, potential friendship in that clasp
          We’d press, and love you for your gentleness;
If you could know the wide, wide reach
          Of love that simple friendliness could teach,
I’m sure you’d say “Hello, my friend,” sometimes,
          And now and then extend a hand in friendliness to each.

Kindness Works ~ There’s Always a Time for Kindness

“Wherever there is a human being, there is an opportunity for a kindness (Seneca).”

Kindness can happen wherever we find ourselves at any moment. It can happen with the person next to us. It can happen with a neighbor or a co-worker. It can happen with a stranger. All it takes is our being aware there is someone other than us in our proximity and to offer a kindness to them.

Today’s Positive Thought ~ Keep Positive Thoughts in Your Mind

“The greatest weapon against stress is our ability to choose one thought over another (William James).”

We can control what we’re thinking about. We may not be able to control what thoughts pops into our minds, once we become of the thoughts that pop into our minds we can change what we’re thinking about. It’s not always easy, with practice we can become skilled at managing our thoughts. Keep positive thoughts in your mind, they’ll take you to your dreams.

A Better Life ~ Finding Diamonds in the Rough

Can you find diamonds in the rough? They surround us each day. If we want to find them, we have slow down, quiet our minds, and become aware of our surroundings. If we do, we can find diamonds in the drops of rain, while others just get wet.

Today’s Power Thought ~ Opportunities Come in Disguises

Opportunities come in all forms of disguises – Your opportunity may not appear as you think it will, but it will appear. Develop an awareness possibilities. When  you recognize it, grab hold and don’t let go. The ride will be exciting, don’t let it throw you. It’s your time.

Today’s Good Word ~ Stop

At times the word stop is a word we we can activate to improve our condition. There is a time to stop drinking and think about driving safely. There is a time to stop talking and start listening. There is a time to stop doing and become more aware of what is happening around us. When we know when to stop we get a clear picture of when to start, perhaps in a new and better direction.

A Song to Nobody ~ Thomas Merton

Song for Nobody

Thomas Merton

A yellow flower
(Light and spirit)
Sings by itself
For nobody.
A golden spirit
(Light and emptiness)
Sings without a word
By itself.
Let no one touch this gentle sun
In whose dark eye
Someone is awake.
(No light, no gold, no name, no color
And no thought:
O, wide awake!)
A golden heaven
Sings by itself
A song to nobody.

A Golden Day ~ Ella Wheeler Wilcox

A Golden Day

Ella Wheeler Wilcox

The subtle beauty of this day
Hangs o'er me like a fairy spell,
And care and grief have flown away,
And every breeze sings, "all is well."
I ask, "Holds earth or sin, or woe?"
My heart replies, "I do not know."

Nay! all we know, or feel, my heart,
Today is joy undimmed, complete;
In tears or pain we have no part;
The act of breathing is so sweet,
We care no higher joy to name.
What reck we now of wealth or fame?

The past--what matters it to me?
The pain it gave has passed away.
The future--that I cannot see!
I care for nothing save today--
This is a respite from all care,
And trouble flies--I know not where.

Go on, oh noisy, restless life!
Pass by, oh, feet that seek for heights!
I have no part in aught of strife;
I do not want your vain delights.
The day wraps round me like a spell
And every breeze sings, "All is well."

Compassion ~ Sri Chinmoy

Compassion

Sri Chinmoy

Write down how many things you want.
Meditate on how many things you need.
When you write them down
You will see
That you want millions of things.
When you meditate
You will notice
That you need only one thing
And that is God the Compassion,
God the eternal Compassion.
