In most disagreements there are at least three avenues:

My way, your way, and a way that unites us in a common purpose.

I don’t know where the path I am following will lead.  I do know, I’ll keep traveling, giving it my best. Here’s hoping you do the same.

Imagine sitting at a table across from a good friend. Neither your friend nor you can see the entire room. You need each other’s viewpoint to create a full picture of the room. This situation is a metaphor of life. No one has a perfect viewpoint, we need each other to compliment our view and fill in a more complete picture.

Small Things Make a Big Difference, Especially in Relationships

It’s the little things like: Walking side by side and talking, leaving the AirPods home, and the cell phone in one’s pocket.

It’s the little things like: Eating together and sharing each other’s day.

It’s the little things like: Praying together.

It’s the little things like: Treating each other as each is the most important person in the world.

I could go on, but you get the idea.

Daring to love deeply is risking getting hurt. Those who have loved deeply and been hurt know they received much more than they lost. Don’t be afraid of love or to love. Love makes the world go round.

In Leo Tolstoy’s short story, Three Questions, Tolstoy answers three questions in the short story: “The King went up to him and said: “I have come to you, wise hermit, to ask you to answer three questions: How can I learn to do the right thing at the right time? Who are the people I most need, and to whom should I, therefore, pay more attention than to the rest? And, what affairs are the most important, and need my first attention?”

How would you answer these questions for the king?

I won’t spoil the story for you. It is available free on line from Gutenberg.org.

Make the best of each moment. Be strong in the dark moments.

Celebrate when the sunshine returns.

When I taught my change class at the university, I’d begin the first class by placing five twenty dollar bills under a can of Diet Coke on a table. I offered the one-hundred dollars to the first person who could change the can of Diet Coke into a rose. I never lost. The lesson: The only person you can change is yourself.

Listening is hard work. Listening isa sign of respect toward the person who is speaking. When we listen we make an effort to understand what the other is saying and the reasons behind it. Listening is a foundational relationship skill. I’ve often thought of listening as an act of love.

Some years back I read a book on decision making. A single concept remains with me. The concept proved invaluable. I hope you find it as useful for you as I found it for me. Here is the concept:

The best decision is to stop making a bad decision.

It’s simple and straightforward.
