Today’s Quote on Confidence & Courage

I am not afraid of storms for I am learning how to sail my ship.

The Chance to Love Everything ~ Poem by Mary Oliver

The Chance To Love Everything

By Mary Oliver

All summer I made friends
with the creatures nearby —
they flowed through the fields
and under the tent walls,
or padded through the door,
grinning through their many teeth,
looking for seeds,
suet, sugar; muttering and humming,
opening the breadbox, happiest when
there was milk and music. But once
in the night I heard a sound
outside the door, the canvas
bulged slightly —something
was pressing inward at eye level.
I watched, trembling, sure I had heard
the click of claws, the smack of lips
outside my gauzy house —
I imagined the red eyes,
the broad tongue, the enormous lap.
Would it be friendly too?
Fear defeated me. And yet,
not in faith and not in madness
but with the courage I thought
my dream deserved,
I stepped outside. It was gone.
Then I whirled at the sound of some
shambling tonnage.
Did I see a black haunch slipping
back through the trees? Did I see
the moonlight shining on it?
Did I actually reach out my arms
toward it, toward paradise falling, like
the fading of the dearest, wildest hope —
the dark heart of the story that is all
the reason for its telling?

Psalm 23 ~ A Psalm of David

Psalm 23

The LORD is my shepherd;

there is nothing I lack.

In green pastures he makes me lie down;

to still waters he leads me;

he restores my soul.

He guides me along right paths

for the sake of his name.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil, for you are with me;

your rod and your staff comfort me.

You set a table before me

in front of my enemies;

You anoint my head with oil;

my cup overflows

6Indeed, goodness and mercy will pursue me

all the days of my life;

I will dwell in the house of the LORD

for endless days.

Something To Think About

To reach a port we must sail, sometimes with the wind, and sometimes against it. But we must not drift or lie at anchor.

Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr.

What is holding you back? In my experience, fear of the outcome is the stumbling block for vigorously stepping out in a new direction.

What if you you let go of your safety net and stepped out?

What if you took a chance and dared to vigorously go for your dream?

What if you failed? Do you have the courage, to get up, shake it off, and get started again?

Never Quit! Never Give UP!

Today’s Quote by Longfellow on Courage

It was a high counsel that I once heard given to a young person, – always do what you are afraid to do.

Today’s Quote by Marie Curie on Courage

Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.

Marie Curie

Something to Think About

If we are completely honest with ourselves, everyone has a dark side to their personalities.

Isabella Rossellini
Are you aware of your dark side? Is it something that frightens or inspires you? Have you made friends with your dark side?
Our dark side can be a friend in many circumstances. Can you think of a time when you needed your dark side to make something good happen?
