We can’t help the thoughts that come into our mind. Often, we cannot choose how long they decide to stay. We can, however, choose whether or not we’ll listen to them. If the thoughts are not uplifting, empowering, and optimistic, push on in spite of them. Don’t give in to fearful, negative, anxiety-ridden thoughts. They’ll leave when they discover we’re not setting a place for them at the table.

What are your limitations? Are they real? For every limitation you can list, check out YouTube and you’ll find someone who has overcome a similar limitation. Lots of our limitations are self imposed. It’s as if we’ve voluntarily placed ourselves in a prison cell. Well, the cell is unlocked, walk out and leave the limitations behind.

I grew up in the Boston area. For me it meant hating the Yankees. The Yankees were the evil empire. I wasn’t born with this bias, I learned it. It’s the way it is with all biases, we learn them. Some biases are silly and foolish. Others, are harmful to ourselves and those toward whom we are biased. If we have the wisdom and courage we can recognize our biases and see them for what they are. It takes courage to admit that a bias is wrong. It takes even greater courage to change.

I was sitting in a coffee shop sipping a green iced tea and working on my laptop. Four people at a nearby table were talking about their houses. One person said, “We really wanted a house with four bathrooms.” I marveled at the person’s ability to use four bathrooms at the same time. Some things are beyond my understanding.

The mornings are dark in south Texas. I woke early, and decided to go for a walk before breakfast. The sky was clear. I stopped more than once to admire the stars. The Orion constellation sparkled. My heart was flooded with wonder, awe, and gratitude.Â

Why does fate smile on some and not on others? That’s too deep for me. It happens. It won’t slow me down or stop me. Don’t get discouraged. Cheer on others’ good fortune. Keep on working, keep on trying. You never know when your turn will come.

Someone who is a social media influencer, popular digital host, or celebrity isn’t any smarter, insightful, or better than you. If you listen to or follow these people, question everything they say. Don’t take anything they say at face value. Trust yourself and your instincts.
