Today’s Poem ~ Love’s Living Flame

Love’s Living Flame

St. John of the Cross

O Love’s living flame,
Tenderly you wound
My soul’s deepest center!
Since you no longer evade me,
Will you, please, at last conclude:
Rend the veil of this sweet encounter!

O cautery so tender!
O pampered wound!
O soft hand! O touch so delicately strange,
Tasting of eternal life
And canceling all debts!
Killing, death into life you change!

O lamps of fiery lure,
In whose shining transparence
The deep cavern of the senses,
Blind and obscure,
Warmth and light, with strange flares,
Gives with the lover’s caresses!

How tame and loving
Your memory rises in my breast,
Where secretly only you live,
And in your fragrant breathing,
Full of goodness and grace,
How delicately in love you make me feel!

Today’s Poem ~ Lakota Instructions for Living

Lakota Instructions for Living

Passed down from White Buffalo Calf Woman

Friend do it this way – that is,
whatever you do in life,
do the very best you can
with both your heart and mind.

And if you do it that way,
the Power Of The Universe
will come to your assistance,
if your heart and mind are in Unity.

When one sits in the Hoop Of The People,
one must be responsible because
All of Creation is related.
And the hurt of one is the hurt of all.
And the honor of one is the honor of all.
And whatever we do affects everything in the universe.

If you do it that way – that is,
if you truly join your heart and mind
as One – whatever you ask for,
that’s the Way It’s Going To Be.

Today’s Power Thought ~ The Great Adventure

Our greatest adventures lie ahead of us. It is central to the whole process of living a full life. The more our adventure is tied to something greater than ourselves, the greater our adventure.

Something to Think About

I like to hang out with people who are still dreaming. It doesn’t matter their age. What matters is the size of their dreams and their passion to keep chasing their dreams. These folks haven’t pulled the shades, pulled  covers over their head, or think about dying. They think about living. They think about the adventures ahead of them. If they realize they can’t catch their dream, that’s no problem. They take a momentary break, grab hold of another dream and set out again.

Today’s Poem ~ Fire

Fire
Dorothea Mackeller
This life that we call our own
Is neither strong nor free;
A flame in the wind of death,
It trembles ceaselessly. And this all we can do
To use our little light
Before, in the piercing wind,
It flickers into night:

To yield the heat of the flame,
To grudge not, but to give
Whatever we have of strength,
That one more flame may live.

Something to Think About

Today I am working on my blog at the public library. There are lots of small children running around. I like their noise. I like their excitement. I like their impatience. Yah, libraries are supposed to be quiet places; however, I’ve not known normal children to be quiet for long stretches of time, or understand they’re supposed to contain their joy of living. They’re good reminders for to enjoy life.

The Oak ~ Tennyson

The Oak

Alfred Tennyson

Live thy life,
Young and old,
Like yon oak,
Bright in spring,
Living gold;
Summer-rich
Then, and then
Autumn-changed
Soberer-hued
Gold again.
All his leaves
Fall'n at length
Look, he stands,
Trunk and bough
Naked strength.

Crossing the Bar ~ Alfred Tennyson

Crossing The Bar

Alfred Tennyson

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,
But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.
Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;
For though from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crossed the bar.
