Light for the Journey: Reclaiming Your Energy: The Secret to Purposeful Living

Stop letting what you can’t control hold your potential hostage.

“Instead of worrying about what you cannot control, shift your energy to what you can create.” ― Roy T. Bennett

Stop Worrying, Start Creating

We often find ourselves trapped in the “worry loop,” obsessing over external variables, past mistakes, or the unpredictable future. But Roy T. Bennett’s wisdom offers a vital exit strategy: shift your focus. Every ounce of energy spent agonizing over things beyond your control is energy stolen from your potential.

Control is an illusion; creation is a superpower. When you stop reacting to the world and start building within it, your perspective transforms. You move from a state of paralysis to a state of agency. Whether you are creating a new habit, a project, or simply a better attitude, you are reclaiming your power. Today, identify one anxiety you can’t change and intentionally trade it for one action you can take. Your energy is a finite resource—don’t waste it on the unchangeable when you could use it to build something extraordinary.

Something to Think About:

What is one “uncontrollable” concern you can trade today for a creative action that moves you forward?

Light for the Journey: Finish the Day, Free the Mind: Emerson’s Timeless Wisdom on Letting Go

What if peace isn’t found by fixing yesterday—but by releasing it?

“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson

Reflection

Each day asks something of us, and we give what we can—sometimes wisely, sometimes clumsily. Emerson reminds us that life is not a ledger meant to be endlessly reviewed, but a rhythm meant to move forward. Mistakes are not anchors unless we tie them around our own ankles. Evening is an invitation to release the weight of what cannot be changed. When we let go, we make room for clarity, rest, and renewal. Tomorrow does not demand perfection; it asks only for presence and courage. Begin again lightly. The past has already done its work. Now it is your turn to rest—and rise.

Something to Think About:

What would change in your life if you truly allowed each day to end—without replaying it or carrying it forward?

Unplug to Unwind—Create Digital Boundaries That Stick

That screen glow is stealing your peace. Want to reclaim your brain? Step away and rediscover what true rest feels like.

Between breaking news, work pings, and scroll spirals, our devices drain us more than we realize. Studies have shown that heavy tech use is associated with increased anxiety, disrupted sleep, and decreased emotional resilience (Twenge, 2023).

Relaxation demands distance. Start with small digital fasts: no phones at dinner, no email after 7 PM, one full hour tech-free before bed. Instead, read, stretch, journal, or talk to a human face-to-face.

You don’t need to toss your phone into a river—just reclaim your power over it. Boundaries are the new freedom. 📚 Source: Twenge, J. M. (2023). Generations: The Real Differences Between Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, Boomers, and Silents—and What They Mean for America’s Future

Why Watching the World Go Bonkers Might Be the Best Thing for Your Creativity

When the world turns into a circus and the clowns run the show, your best move might be grabbing a pen, stepping back, and writing about the chaos from the cheap seats. You’ll be saner—and probably funnier—because of it.

There is an infinite amount of writing cues if we take the time to detach ourselves from the chaos that surrounds us and become observers of it without passing judgment. In addition to the infinite amount of writing cues, it’s also emotionally healthy to detach ourselves from the chaos or as I like to call it craziness that appears omnipresent. Consider a few of the more public examples. There is the President of the United States, having a public battle with the richest man in the world. It is more akin to watching middle school children write nasty texts to each other. If you’re into thrillers, there are people who indiscriminately choose to wage water on other people without concern for innocent people. Then, there are relatives who you know are nuts, but don’t want to say anything because it might topple the fragile detente in the family. If we allow ourselves to get caught up into these things, we may as well make a reservation at the local psychiatric clinic. When we detach ourselves from them and become objective observers, we can better assess how or if we should be become involved. The current secretary of health and human affairs in the United States wants to take fluoride out of the water. Perhaps, he should advocate putting a tranquilizer in the water that only affects politicians. See how easier it is to be creative and come up with brilliant ideas when you’re detached. Lol.

Think About It

  1. If world leaders are texting like teens, does that mean we should start journaling like philosophers?
  2. Could detaching from chaos be the most underrated mental health hack of the decade?
  3. If your cousin’s family feud can’t inspire a short story, are you even paying attention?
