Only ~ A Poem by Harriet Prescott Spofford

Only

Harriet Prescott Spofford

Something to live for came to the place,
Something to die for maybe,
Something to give even sorrow a grace,
And yet it was only a baby!

Cooing, and laughter, and gurgles, and cries,
Dimples for tenderest kisses,
Chaos of hopes, and of raptures, and sighs,
Chaos of fears and of blisses.

Last year, like all years, the rose and the thorn;
This year a wilderness maybe;
But heaven stooped under the roof on the morn
That it brought them only a baby.

Today’s Thought: Mom’s Wisdom

My mom taught me many life lessons that remain with me. She taught me how to hold a fork and knife, to be polite, to pray, to learn something new everyday, and more importantly she taught me kindness. I am grateful for her, her wisdom and love. She’s been gone for a while, but she’s never too far away from me. If your mom is alive stay in touch with her, let her know you love her. You’ll never regret it. What life lessons did she teach you?

Today’s Thought: Fond Memories of Mom

I consider myself blessed. I had a wonderful mom. I remember the walks down the railroad tracks to my uncle’s house three miles away. We’d stop on the way and pick wild grapes and wild blackberries on the way to his house and the way home. When she cooked the macaroni for Sunday dinner, she’d always call me in from the pallor to test if the mostaccioli were done; of course they were. And, she’d always put a bit of her homemade sauce on it. I have lots of good memories about my mom and they all make me smile. Heaven got a good one when she went home.

Feeling Good Tip for Today ~ Mom Makes Me Smile

Every time I think of my mom, I smile. She’s been gone a while, but the things she taught me have stayed with me.

Here are a few of the things my mom taught me.

      1. My mom taught me to pray.
      2. My mom taught me to respect and treat women with dignity.
      3. My mom taught me to be kind to everyone no matter their station in life.
      4. My mom taught me to be hospitable to all who walked through the door.
      5. My mom taught me that often the best advice was given softly.

What did your mom teach you? What memories of your mom make you smile?

Inspiring Quote for Today ~ Happy Mother’s Day

“What is a mom but the sunshine of our days and the north star of our nights.”

Let Your Mom Know She Blessed You

What if I wrote a letter to my mom (living or deceased) and recounted all the ways she blessed me? If you take time to do this for your mom or someone else you dearly loved, you will find it rewarding, You’ll rekindle special memories of good times, love, and kindness. Moreover, if this person is alive, give them the letter. It will make their day. In many ways, a handwritten letter is felt more deeply than an email or typed letter. It shows that the writer took special care to compose the letter.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY

If you have a mom, there is nowhere you are likely to go where a prayer has not already been.
