🤗 Feel Good Hack ~ Never Meet a Stranger

Friendliness First

Some people can be described as “the type of person who’s never met a stranger.” These are people who meet the world with a pleasant temperament and an openness to new people and new experiences – regardless of who may be placed in their path on any given day.

Friendliness is about offering warmth and good humor to those around you. It is about being willing to make the first move socially while recognizing that others may be a little slow to warm up and that the rewards for friendliness are not always immediately enjoyed. I once worked with a vibrant and delightful woman in her 70s who avowed that “every day is a new opportunity to add to your collection of friends!” She couldn’t count the number of friends she had and she couldn’t find words to describe the pleasure they brought her in life.

🤗 Feel Good Hack ~ Let the Past be Past

Forget About the Past

If you consider a bad childhood, bad financial decisions made years ago, or a breakup as a negative self-fulfilling prophecy for your future, your future will be pretty gloomy. Instead, take life’s challenges as lessons, put them in your past, and consider yourself stronger for overcoming the negatives in your past.

🤗 Feel Good Hack ~ The Power of Yet

I read an article in Psychology Today where the author describes how he uses the word “yet” to help people whose life outlook is clouded with deep despair and lack of hope. I’ve always been an optimist and his words resonated with me. I hope they will resonate with you. Never quit. Never give up. A new day awaits. We have another chance. Hang on.

Adding the word “yet” to pessimistic or doomful predictions often gets a patient’s attention and introduces the possibility that their strong beliefs in a negative future outcome may not be entirely accurate. At least there is someone else—someone with some credibility—who is not ready to automatically accept their hopelessness.

“I know that I will never find someone to marry!” becomes “I haven’t found someone to marry yet.” “We will never be able to work things out!” becomes “we have not been able to work things out yet.” No, there is nothing magical about adding this word; however, it does introduce a measure of hope into the proceedings without which a change effort may not fare well. Simply stated, people work toward change differently when they believe that change can actually occur.

Feel Good Hack ~ You Are In Charge

You Are In Charge of Your Choices. You have the right to change your mind or your direction at any time. You don’t need to feel that you owe anyone anything more than you want to give with your free and conscious heart. Anyone who mistreats you, is disrespectful of your wishes, refuses to hear you, and has no intention of changing is trouble with a capital T. Be ready to walk away without fear or guilt, and don’t look back.

🤗 Feel Good Hack ~ Eat Slowly

I come from an Italian family where food was the centerpiece of meals and conversation surrounded it. We argued about politics, relatives, and whether black or green olives were better. It was always fun (most of the time). The talking and gossiping caused us to eat slowly. It’s pretty hard to eat and talk with a meatball in your mouth. Well, eating slowly is a great health tip and when you add good conversation, it’s a feel good hack.

Eat Slowly

This gives your brain the chance to get the signal that you’re full, so you’re less likely to overeat. And if you take it slow, you’re more likely to think about what you’re eating and make sensible, healthy choices.

🤗 Feel Good Hack ~ Seeing Differently

When we aren’t feeling good about our lives, it’s usually because one or two things went wrong; we focus on these things; and we get obsessive to the point of not being able to see the good that is all around us. Yet, little moments of appreciation can make the difference between a good day and a bad one.

Remember a sunrise or sunset.

Appreciate someone.

Do something new.

Take time to count blessings (being grateful)

🤗 Feel Good Hack ~ Smile More – A Lot More

Turn That Frown Upside Down

You might notice that people more often gravitate to those with a sunnier disposition. However, the actual act of smiling emits serotonin (the happy hormone) and creates a, stimulating, positive environment. While frowning creates negative energy and drives people away.

Feel Good Hack ~ Ditch the Comparisons

Ditch the Comparisons

With social media, we now have a near-constant view into other people’s lives. It is all too easy to compare yourself to these people and wish for their “perfect” lives. But the truth is… it’s not real. Instead of comparing yourself, focus on what you have that makes you happy. Accept that everyone is different, and work on being content with yourself, doing what makes you happy. Suggestions: Unfollow people on social media who trigger these comparison feelings or who make you feel bad about yourself.
