Today’s Thought: Separating Truth from Fiction

When I was a small kid my mom would me tales of a fictional character named Maurice Quinlin. All of the tales took place in the Maine woods. She was very good at it. I hung on to every word to find out if Maurice Quinlin escaped from the wolves or bears. Imagine my dreams those nights!! I looked forward to her telling me those stories. I outgrew Maurice Quinlin and knew the stories were all made up. These days we have to separate truth from fiction when we hear some politicians. It’s not too hard to do when the stories they tell are absurdly false. Be wise and discern.

Something to Think About

Hurricanes, tornadoes, drought, and glaciers melting, we’re told that is all signs of global warming.Global warming impacts all of us.It’s mind boggling for the average person. The average person is concerned with paying rent or the mortgage, feeding a family in times of high inflation, and wondering whether he or she can walk safely to work.  When politicians decide to work together and collaborate for the welfare of all, some of the problems may be solved. Failure to collaborate may be a larger problem than the issues listed in this post. C’mon politicians, it’s time to work together.

Something to Think About

News media and politicians often demonize the opposition. They try to control our emotions and generate our anger toward a perceived enemy. They make the case that the enemy’s goal is to harm us, take away our long held freedoms and values. What if we didn’t listen to the news media and politicians? What if we chose to see those with different views as not much different from ourselves? What if we sought to engage those different from us in honest dialogue seeking areas of common agreement? Different opinions will not go away. They exist for a purpose. They exist to challenge us to think more deeply and seek underlying truths.
