No matter one’s age, one has the right to dream of something better. Dreams pull us toward tomorrow. They give us a reason to get up in the morning. They provide us with the energy to push through tough moments knowing tough moments won’t last. Whatever your age, dream on, dream great dreams, dream dreams that pull you into tomorrow.

Something to Think About
There is a right and wrong. When we lose our capacity to understand there are appropriate ways to act in relationships and society, we disintegrate into dysfunctional relationships and a dysfunctional society. The great teachers from all traditions point the way by teaching us that love, kindness, and peace bring about a more just and harmonious society. When each of us works to create a loving relationship we add to the greater good of creating a just, loving and kind society.
Something to Think About
Early voting has started in Texas with election day just two weeks ahead. I take voting seriously. I like to inform myself about the candidates and their positions. I don’t care for the negative ads I see on TV. I view negative ads as half-truths that tell me nothing about either candidate. Voting is a honor and one to take seriously. I’m happy I have choices to make. I may not vote for all winning candidates, but knowing I have a chance to express my viewpoint is a fundamental right in a democracy.
What If . . .
What if you stood alone holding on to what you believed to be right and just? It’s hard to stand alone facing the power structure. There are times in our lives when life asks us to take a stand. One guideline to knowing if our stand is the right one is to ask ourselves if it involves our ego. The more our stand is other centered and less about our ego the more we can be sure we’re on the right track. In the end you’ll know your integrity won out.
Today’s Good Word ~ What’s Right?
How often do we ask ourselves ‘what’s right’ in this situation? When we ask ourselves ‘what’s right’ in a situation we ask ourselves to make a judgement based on our value system. If we don’t have a value system, we have no gauge to determine what is right is a situation. We make judgements based on feelings with no substance to support our feelings. Having value-based support for what is right is important in times when our values system does not conform with popular opinion. When we do what is right based on our value system we can live with ourselves. We have integrity. What we decide to do may not be popular but it defines us and our values.
Something to Think About
What if you wrote the story of your life? Would you tell of all the challenges you faced? Would you tell about the times you stood alone for what was right and didn’t back down? Would you tell of how love came into your life? Would you tell of dreams chased, captured or lost? Our lives are our stories and we are the central character of our stories. Here’s hoping your story is a heroic adventure, one of which you and those who know you can be proud.

A great right in democracies is the right to vote. We can vote between competing candidates who express competing ideas. When we don’t vote, we forfeit our right to have a say in who governs us. Sometimes our votes are for winning candidates whose views we support. Other times, our votes are for the losing candidate and the opposing candidate wins. That’s the way it is in a democracy, the majority vote counts. We accept it and move on, grateful we had a chance to vote.
