Today’s Thought: Opportunies Like These Abound

I’m sitting in Starbucks working on this post. It’s crowded. I got the last table, but I’m willing to share it with anyone who asks. Most people won’t ask to share a Starbuck’s table. I will. I’ll say something like, “Do you mind if I share this table with you?” I’ve never been rejected. Perhaps having my Macbook air in my arm helps. When we share what we have, we help each other out. Working at a table in Starbuck is a lot better than trying to work on my laptop while sitting in one of their cushy seats. Everyday we have opportunities to share. It might happen while we’re driving. It might happen in our homes or at work. Whenever we share we make the world a little friendlier, a little kinder.

Think About It ~ Story Sharing Has Many Benefits

Each of us is a composite of stories. I called my brother yesterday and wished him a merry Christmas. During during our conversation we began to share childhood stories. We each had fond memories of where we grew up, the people who lived in the tenements, and our experiences with them. We laughed at windows broken by hit baseballs, playing on railroad tracks, and the nearby river. When we listen to each other’s stories, we discover how similar we are. We discover the differences that separate us are not as great as we imagined. Encourage others to share their stories with you and be willing to share stories as well. Who knows, you may make a new friend or heal a wounded relationship.
