When we wake up in the morning we have no clue what the day will bring us. My preferential option is to view each day with optimism, convinced good things are coming my way. I view my day as one filled with surprises waiting for me to unwrap. I’ve found, in my experience, I usually find what I’m looking for. Why not look for the good? Why not look for opportunities? Why not look for adventures? They’re all there waiting for me. You don’t want to miss one of the wonderful surprises coming your way. Sometimes they sneak up on us. They have a propensity for being quiet. If we’re not alert they will scoot right on by. Snag them before they get away. You know it’s going to be a great day.

Do You Like Surprises?
Do you like surprises? I do when they are pleasant surprises. Not so much when the surprise puts me into a sudden tailspin. Many of the success oriented self help books encourage us to set goals and pursue them. They don’t talk too much about chasing a goal only to find out your airplane decided to land at an alternate destination. One you hadn’t expected. One for which you feel totally unprepared. That’s more or less been my life. I’m heading in one direction, then my plane takes me to a new destination. I know folks whose plane always takes them to the destination they were seeking. Sometimes I’m a bit envious until I reflect on my adventures and what they taught me. I agree with E. M. Forster who wrote, “We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.”
Today’s Thought: Today’s Adventures Are Waiting for You
Are you ready for today’s adventures? They’re waiting for you. Who knows where they will carry you. Be open to surprises, new people, and new knowledge. Everything that is coming to you today will help prepare you for tomorrow. Free up your inner child and go after this day with gusto. If disappointment hits, shake it off and go on to the next adventure. Who knows how many dragons you’ll slay or secret treasures you find. Perhaps your muse will knock at your door and crank your creativity up a couple of notches. Today is yours. Don’t miss a minute of it.
Today’s Thought: Where Are You Going?
I recall when I was finishing my master’s degree my advisor asked me, where do you want to go with this? I look at him and said, “I don’t know. I only know I want to go. I’ll figure it out.” He gave me a look that told me he failed with me. LOL. Much later in life if I were asked the same question, I’d give much the same answer. I know lots of folks who have a clear goal in mind. I admire them. Maybe I envy them. I don’t want to be like them. I like to be open to life’s surprises. It may be that I don’t want to miss anything and I want to experience everything. We all have to figure out our path. When you find one that fits don’t let anyone talk you out of it.

What If . . .
What if today I decide to roll with it and take the day as it unfolds? I’ve never met a day where every single thing went my way. I’ve had plenty of good days. Yet, even in my good days, there are bumps here and there. I didn’t notice them because they were overwhelmed by the good things that were happening. If I’m looking for a perfect day, I may as well search for gold or an oil well on my property. I’m not going to find either one. If I roll with the day as it unfolds, I’m likely to enjoy the day, maybe get a few laughs out of it. And, maybe I’ll get a few great surprises I otherwise would not have noticed.
Something to Think About
Life is filled with wonderful and unexpected surprises. I had a hip replaced on Monday, and on Friday I was walking unassisted and without pain. If our hearts are open to the life’s wonders we can grasp a sense of the miraculous..
A Better Life ~ The Little Things
It’s the little things, done consistently over time that build great relationships. Little things like hugs, saying I love you, surprises, listening, helping out, and always taking time to care.
