Yesterday afternoon a whooper of a thunderstorm roared through my area. Lightening and thunder at times were instantaneous. The winds drove the heavy rain sideways. I was happy I was in my home. Then, as quickly as the storm hit, it subsided and the Texas sun was as bright as ever. That’s how it is with life. Storms hit us, sometimes with a raging fury. If we hold on, the storm loses its power and our sunlight returns. We all have to endure challenges. They’re not always simple to overcome. If we hold on we can outlast the challenges. Never quit.

Today’s Thought: Three Cheers for Rainy Days
I’m writing this post as a thunderstorm is rolling through. Rain is welcomed whenever it shows up in south Texas. The hot season will settle in soon and it will be dry for a while. It’s not something we give much thought to, but where would we be without rain? Life would be impossible. I’ve always liked rain. As a kid I’d run outside and splash in the puddles. I think I was more than a handful for my mom. Later in life I enjoyed running in the rain, I preferred a warm rain, but what are you going to do when you are living in a cold climate. Rain makes my grass green, my shishito pepper plants look healthy, and my flowering plants are showing off. Three cheers for rain. I think I’ll schedule this post and go outside and stand in the rain for a few minutes.
Today’s Thought: Enjoy Every Moment
I write this post on a Sunday morning. A series of thunderstorms passed through this morning bringing torrential rains with them. It was pouring rain when I parked my car in the church parking lot and headed into mass. A mom and dad and their two girls and a boy were trailing behind me as we walked through the pouring rain toward the church. I had my rainwear on. The family behind me had no rain gear. The kids were laughing and having a wonderful time walking in the downpour. I was sure they’d prefer playing in the rain instead of going into church. They made me smile and reminded me to enjoy every moment today whether it’s raining or sunny.
Healthy Lifestyle Tip ~ Is It Safe to Shower During a Thunderstorm?
When is it safe to shower during a thunderstorm?
To protect yourself from a lightning strike, refrain from showering for at least 30 minutes after the last thunder roll you hear.
“The most dangerous times for a lightning strike are immediately before and immediately after the storm,” says Dr. Bazzoli. “Lightning strikes can commonly extend 10 miles out from a thundercloud. So, if you’re able to hear thunder, you’re still within that strike distance.”
