Optimism Works ~ Optimism Protects Against Anxiety & Depression
Optimism is Good Medicine
Optimism affects how people react to stressful life events. Specifically, people who are more optimistic are at less risk for anxiety and depression after something stressful happens to them. Apparently, the kind of optimism that reduces the risk of depression is different than the kind that protects against anxiety. Specifically, having positive expectations for the future is what counteracts depression while a having a sense of being invulnerable is what lowers anxiety.

Behind Me — dips Eternity –
Before Me — Immortality –

Today’s Health Tip ~ What is The Mediterranean Diet?
How Does the Mediterranean Diet Work?
- Fill your plate with a wide range of foods.
- Eat fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts, legumes, olive oil, herbs and spices daily.
- Eat seafood and fish at least twice a week.
- Poultry, eggs, cheese and yogurt are OK in moderation.
- Red meat and sweets are best reserved as occasional treats.
- The occasional glass of red wine is acceptable.
This type of low-fat eating pattern leaves little room for the saturated fat, added sugars and sodium that inundate the standard American diet. People who eat a Mediterranean-style diet have longer lifespans, report a higher quality of life and are less likely to suffer from chronic diseases such as cancer and heart disease.
There are a lot of misconceptions about the Mediterranean diet – namely that eating mounds of starchy pasta and processed cheese food meets the requirements of a Mediterranean diet plan. While you could eat a small amount of whole-wheat pasta on the Mediterranean eating plan, it would be topped with plenty of fresh vegetables and beans, dressed with olive oil and perhaps sprinkled with a small amount of natural cheese.
Today’s Positive Thought ~ Prize Inner Peace
“The more tranquil a man becomes, the greater is his success, his influence, his power for good. Calmness of mind is one of the beautiful jewels of wisdom (James Allen).” We all know the feeling in the pit of our stomachs when we are upset. We know what it feels like in the middle of the night when our mind will not quiet down. Seeking inner peace is a good goal for anyone. When we are peaceful we see more clearly. Our minds cease being cluttered and we make better decisions.
Think About It ~ It’ a World of Possibilities
When you change how you see the world, your whole world changes (Aman Motwane).” What if we viewed our world as a world of possibilities where everything is possible? How would that viewpoint change the way we lived our lives? Would we take more trips? Would we take more risks? Would we dare to do the things we’ve always dreamed about but was afraid to do? The good news is that the world is a world of possibilities. It’s up to us to discover them. They’re out there waiting to be harvested. It’s time to begin living in a world of possibilities.
Today’s Health Tip ~ Want to Remain Independent and Mobile?
It can’t be emphasized enough: engaging in physical activity is the single most important thing you can do to maintain mobility and independence, no matter your age or your health status. It can help you control your weight. It’s the key to keeping your muscles and bones strong, your joints working properly, your heart healthy, and your metabolism revved. The more you move, the better your strength and balance will be, and the less likely you will be to fall or lose the ability to perform basic daily functions. And that’s on top of all the other health benefits of regular exercise, such as reduced risks of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and some cancers. Exercise even has positive effects on mood and may help improve cognitive function.
