Today’s Positive Thought ~ Every Problem Carries a Gift

Every problem in your life carries a gift inside it (Richard Bach).” No one really wants problems; unfortunately, problems happen and they frequently happen. Problems are life’s best teachers. We don’t pay tuition. We do get passing or failing grades. They don’t go away until we get it right. Next time you have a problem, ask it to teach you the lesson it has for you. Then thank it for its gift to you.

Think About It ~ Living Without Regrets

“What good is regret? It brings back nothing. What we have lost is irretrievable (Khaled Hosseini).” When we live our lives by doing good, being responsible, not closing our eyes to injustice, we begin to live a life with no regrets. As an adult, I called my mom and dad every day. I couldn’t visit often because of the distance between us, but I stayed in daily contact. I made sure I told them I loved them each day. At times it was an inconvenience, but I made the call. When they died, I knew I did my best to show them I honored and loved them. I had no regrets and no wishes about something I should have done.

Today’s Inspiration ~ Knocked Down? Get Up!

“It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get up.”

– Vince Lombardi

Optimism Works ~ Don’t Want to Die of a Coronary? Try Optimism

Being more optimistic makes you less likely to die of coronary heart disease. There’s more research that needs to be done on why this is, but it appears that optimism both changes your actual physiological response to stress and also leads you to make healthier choices (like not smoking). Bottom line: score 1 for the power of positive thinking. When we replace can’t with can and don’t with do, with begin to rearrange how our mind operates. We move from negative thinking to positive thinking. We begin to view the world differently, more positively, and filled with wonderful opportunities. Why not help your heart by going through a mind shift and jumping aboard the positive thinking express.

Today’s Inspiration ~ The Way to Use Time

“The past is behind, learn from it. The future is ahead, prepare for it. The present is here, live it.”

~ Thomas S. Monson

Today’s Poem ~ Going to Heaven

Going to Heaven

Emily Dickinson

GOING to heaven!
I don’t know when,
Pray do not ask me how, –
Indeed, I ‘m too astonished
To think of answering you!
Going to heaven! –
How dim it sounds!
And yet it will be done
As sure as flocks go home at night
Unto the shepherd’s arm!

Perhaps you ‘re going too!
Who knows?
If you should get there first,
Save just a little place for me
Close to the two I lost!
The smallest ‘robe’ will fit me,
And just a bit of ‘crown’;
For you know we do not mind our dress
When we are going home.

I ‘m glad I don’t believe it,
For it would stop my breath,
And I ‘d like to look a little more
At such a curious earth!
I am glad they did believe it
Whom I have never found
Since the mighty autumn afternoon
I left them in the ground.

Today’s Positive Thought ~ Disappointment is not the Final Answer

Many times the wrong train took me to the right place (Paulo Coelho).” Have you ever had a great disappointment? I have. I’ve wanted something so bad and when I didn’t get it, it felt like someone kicked me in the stomach. The funny thing about it, in hindsight, I was happy it didn’t happen. Something much better came to me. I had to wait longer for it to knock on my door, It was worth the wait. Disappointed over not getting something you wanted? Wait, something better is coming your way. It will knock on  your door when you’re ready for it. Make sure you answer the door.

Optimism Works ~ Exercising and Optimism Go Hand in Hand

“Research shows that athletic people are much more optimistic than their sedentary counterparts. Half an hour to an hour of brisk walking or jogging several times a week should do the trick.” (Source)

Having trouble exercising? Is it too hard? You don’t like it? You don’t have time? Those are four excuses. A friend told me, we do what we want to do, we find excuses for what we don’t want to do. What if you turned it around and found excuses to work out. For example, If I exercise I’ll sleep better. If I exercise I’ll be alive to walk my daughter down the aisle at her wedding. If I exercise I’ll be able to enjoy better sex with my partner. You get the idea.

Think About It ~ Stand Up to the Little Fears

Don’t let the little fears scare you. It’s the little fears that slowly tear at the fabric of our lives until there is nothing left. Choose a little fear and stand up to it. If the little fear doesn’t want you to travel, then travel. If the little fear doesn’t want you to fall in love again, then fall in love. If the little fear doesn’t want you to move, then move. The little fears stop us from living, this is the year to live and to erase the little fears one fear at a time.
