One of the greatest gifts we have is the ability to think. We can think about problems and find solutions, We can think about what people say and decide if their being truthful or lying. We can think about lots of stuff. If our thinking is clear and informed by data, we can make better decisions than if we don’t think. Or, much worse, let someone else tell us what to think. Those who think for themselves and make decisions independent of outside influence are free.

Today’s Quote: Be a Sunshine Person Today
Those who bring sunshine into the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves. ~ James M. Barrie
Today’s Poem: Before Sunrise by George Traki
Before Sunrise
George Traki
In the dark many bird voices call,
The trees and the springs murmur noisily,
In the clouds a rose-colored glow sounds
Like early love’s distress. The night blues away –
With shy hands the twilight softly polishes
The love lair, feverishly stirred up,
And lets the drunkenness of languished kisses end
In dreams, smiling and felt half-awake.
Health Facts: Are You Retaining Water?
Carrying excess water, also known as water retention or edema, can lead to some lesser-known but important health concerns:
1. Increased Risk of Hypertension (High Blood Pressure):
Excess water in the body can contribute to an increase in blood volume, which in turn puts extra pressure on the blood vessels. This can lead to or exacerbate hypertension. High blood pressure is a significant risk factor for heart disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular conditions. While water retention is often considered a minor inconvenience, its impact on blood pressure is a serious health concern that shouldn’t be overlooked.
2. Electrolyte Imbalance:
Retaining too much water can lead to an imbalance in electrolytes, particularly sodium, potassium, and magnesium. Electrolytes are essential for proper nerve and muscle function, including maintaining heart rhythm and muscle contraction. An imbalance can result in symptoms such as muscle cramps, weakness, and, in severe cases, heart arrhythmias. This is particularly important for individuals who are already at risk due to conditions like kidney disease or those who take certain medications.
These facts highlight the importance of addressing water retention and understanding its potential impact on overall health.

Today’s Thought: The Best Predictor of Human Behavior
I had a psychology professor in undergraduate school who said, “The best predictor or human behavior is past behavior.” I’ve remembered it and found it to be true. There’s a big difference between what folks say and what they do. If you want to know a person, watch what they do. If they’ve lied in the past, they’ll lie in the future. If they’ve been kind in past they will be kind in the future. If we take a hard look at ourselves and see things we don’t like, we can change and prove my professor wrong. it takes courage to make that kind of change.

Today’s Quote: It’s All About Love
“Keep love in your heart. A life without it is like a sunless garden when the flowers are dead.” ~ Oscar Wilde
Today’s Poem: Fragment: A Wanderer by Percy Bysshe Shelley
Fragment: A Wanderer
Percy Bysshe Shelley
He wanders, like a day-appearing dream,
Through the dim wildernesses of the mind;
Through desert woods and tracts, which seem
Like ocean, homeless, boundless, unconfined.
Health Facts: Is decaf coffee made from a chemical process safe to drink?
Yes, decaffeinated coffee that is made using a chemical process is generally considered safe to drink. The most common chemical process involves the use of solvents like methylene chloride or ethyl acetate to remove caffeine from the coffee beans.
Key Points:
- Methylene Chloride: This solvent is approved for use by regulatory agencies like the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The process typically leaves only trace amounts of the chemical in the coffee, far below the levels considered harmful.
- Ethyl Acetate: Often referred to as the “natural” method because ethyl acetate occurs naturally in fruits, this solvent is also approved by the FDA. The process leaves very little residue in the final product.
- Water Processing: Some decaf coffees are processed using the Swiss Water Process or other water-based methods, which do not use chemicals at all. This method is another safe option if you’re concerned about chemical residues.
Overall, the safety of decaf coffee processed with chemicals is well-supported by scientific research and regulatory standards. However, if you have concerns, you can always opt for decaf coffee that uses non-chemical methods like the Swiss Water Process.
