Happy People Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff
People who are happy focus their energy and efforts only on things that are truly important and within their control. Remember, getting consumed by the things that you have absolutely no control over is a waste of time that will end up making you lean more toward the miserable side. In other words, master the art of letting it go.
Making sleep a priority, you’ll be popping out of bed with the best of them. And once you do, you’ll find yourself with hours of “me” time to do whatever you want. “During this time do something like exercise, reading, listening to a podcast, doing meditation or mantras, or just enjoying a sitcom with your cup of coffee,” Martinez says. It’ll make all the difference in the world.
Think of One Good Thing
“Think of one thing that you are going to do well [today], and keep that focus in mind,” Martinez suggests. Just one thing. Maybe it’s that you’ll make it to work on time, or that you’ll eat a healthy lunch. This will make the day seem manageable — and positive — and that should do wonders for your mood.
Ask Yourself: “How Can I Make this Day Amazing?”
It’s a simple question but it’s so powerful. By simply asking yourself “How can I make today amazing?” you make yourself realize that you are in control of how your day goes and how you feel about it. Then, do the things to make it amazing!
I know, the sun is bright and quite horrible in the morning. But you don’t have to be all vampiric with your curtains drawn tight. In fact, you should throw those babies open and let the sun in to help yourself wake up. “[The sun] also increases the brain’s level of serotonin, a chemical that boosts mood,” said health writer Michele Bender on Prevention. Win and win.

“I can’t believe THAT!” said Alice.
“Can’t you? Try again: draw a long breath, and shut your eyes,” said the Queen.
Alice laughed. “There’s no use trying, one can’t believe impossible things.”
“I daresay you haven’t had much practice. When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why sometimes I believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast!“ said the Queen.

Here’s a couple of answers that come to mind when I ask this question: 1) I’m healthy. 2) I have five great daughters. 3) I have good friends. 4) I live in a great country. 5) I have great neighbors.Â
Separate Your Workspace
Designating a separate space for work can not only help encourage focus, but it can also help us better decompress when it’s time to put work away for the day.Â
“When working at home, we’ve completely lost that point in time where labor and leisure are separated,” said New York City-based architect Kevin Lichten.Â
And, if it’s not possible to have a separate room for a home office, Jamie Gold, a San Diego-based wellness design consultant and author, suggests dividing a space with a visual separator, such as a large planter, bookcase or screen to help you “leave” work by closing it off to view when you’re relaxing.
