Every Day Challenge

If you want your soul
To be truly proud of you,
Then every day challenge
The giant pride
Of impossibility.

What if you dared to ask, ‘why not?” You’d quickly change the conversation. Some will take offense that you dared challenge the status quo. Others will stop and think and begin to look for solutions. When I was young our Sunday meal was always macaroni and meatballs with chunks of pepperoni cooked in the sauce. It smelled wonderful as it cooked all morning on the stove top. I still recall the taste. No one thought of asking why not have something different That is, no one thought of asking why not have something else until my dad needed a triple by-pass and the doctor told him to change his diet. Why not is a good question to periodically ask. It forces us to challenge our fixed way of thinking.
I have a one-minute rule. It works like this: when I face an uncomfortable task, I challenge myself to give the task one full concentrated minute. I find that after one concentrated minute, I get into the task and take it through to completion. It has made a big difference for me. Have a great day.
When life puts us to the test, unknown doors within us open and previously unknown sources of strength surge through us to meet the challenge.
When we overcome our fear and embrace the challenge confronting us,
we conquer more than a mountain, we conquer our fear.
Each time you conquer a steep challenge, you conquer the fear in yourself. Confidence grows, courage replaces fear.
Is today the day you challenge yourself to do something you’ve wanted to do, but keep putting off? Is today the day, you face the challenge determined to take it on? Even if you fail, big deal, the challenge won’t go away, but you’ll come back a bit wiser and stronger. The challenge may be physical like dieting or exercising. It may be intellectual. It may be relational. Whatever the challenge you’ve thought about and set aside, take it on. Face it. Kick its ass.
“One of the things I like to say is every day is it’s an awesome day, it’s just up to me to live up to it.” ~ Jonathan Sams
I read a feel good, heart warming story of a dad of 4 who has beaten cancer three times. During his last stay at the hospital he walked a marathon (26.2 miles) inside the hospital while being cheered on by the nurses. He called it a ‘marathon of purpose.’ He said in an interview, “The question isn’t whether we’ll have a challenge or not. The question is how we’re are going to live up to that challenge.” You can read the story here. We all have challenges. We can use this man’s example of courage in the face of adversity to motivate us to rise above the challenges we face and claim our victory.
When you’re facing a big challenge and fear knocks on your door, take the challenge. It was designed for you. You have the strength, endurance, and intelligence to send fear running. The challenge won’t be easy, but the opportunities it offers are worth the struggle. Grab hold of it and don’t let go.
