Vent, Then Invent: Turning Complaints into Comebacks”

Sure, complaining feels good for a hot second—like scratching an itch with a cactus. But if all we do is gripe from the couch, the only thing we’re moving is air. Time to stand up, and speak out

Complaining has a place in life. It allows us to vent our feelings and lowers the stress level a couple of degrees. Problem is, the relief is temporary. Complaining doesn’t change the conditions we’re complaining about. Actions do. Whatever the situation that is the source of our complaints we are not powerless. There is something we can do, especially if we live in a free society. We can find ways to get involved. We can vote. We can protest. We can volunteer to work to improve conditions. If we sit on our hands on the sofa and watch the news, the only change that will take place is the movement of time. C’mon, get involved. Make a difference. Do not accept the false narrative that you are powerless.

Today’s Quote: Change is Inevitable

No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man. Heraclitus time is it

Today’s Quote: Embrace Change

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.” ― Alan Wilson Watts

Searching for Happiness

We can run or run toward but we can’t stay in the same place. Lots of folks try to stay in the same place, it doesn’t work because everyone’s life is in a constant state of change. We are changing physically, emotionally, and intellectually. Our context is in a constant state of change. As our context changes it requires us to adapt to it and change. When we fail to adapt, we may get frustrated, angry, or depressed. Our context doesn’t care how we feel. If we want a shot at being happy, we have to change or adapt. It is the way is. Those who figure it out, are much happier than those who don’t.

A Path Toward Living More Authentically

No one knows what is going on inside your mind but you. Even you are not aware of all the stuff that’s going on in your mind. There are times when an honest friend will give us an accurate assessment of what they see going on with us. We react angrily or deny what they see in us exists. When we react that way, it generally is an affirmation of our friend’s observation. Psychiatrist Carl Jung termed this hidden part of us our shadow. Get it? Our shadow is behind us, we don’t see it. When we recognize this hidden part of our personality, it usually contains the things we don’t want to admit about ourselves. When we unmask our shadow and force it to come out of hiding and into the sunlight, we have an opportunity to change our lives and live more authentically.

Fill the Day with Love

Happy Valentine’s Day! One of my daughters was born on this day. It makes the day extra special for me. Valentine’s day reminds us that life teaches us that love is the answer. The more we learn to love, the more love fills our life and transforms us. We are all in stages of becoming and the more we learn to love the more we evolve into what we can be. Fill this day with love and continue to fill each succeeding with love and together we will change the world.

Who Am I?

Who am I? Life frequently challenges us to answer that question. Who I am today may not be who I am tomorrow. We evolve as we meet challenges, learn, and evolve our aspirations. Sometimes life challenges us to look at ourselves and ask, “Do I like who I’ve become?” When life challenges us to answer that question it’s asking us to check to see if our actions align with what we profess to be our core values. If we see a misalignment, we can change. We don’t have to be stuck in patterns of behavior that trap us in to becoming what we criticize in others. Change is always possible.

Love Changes Us

“We are not trapped or locked up in these bones. No, no. We are free to change. And love changes us. And if we can love one another, we can break open the sky.” ~ Walter Mosley
