Optimism Works ~ You Can Change the Way You Think

Dr. Norman Doidge, M.D. in his book, The Brain That Changes Itself: Stories of Personal Triumph from the Frontiers of Brain Science, states that our brains are not rigidly mapped out as scientists once thought. Instead, by thinking differently, our brain has the incredible capacity to form new neural pathways (source).

If you’re prone to negative and doomsday thinking why not switch it around and practice for one week thinking optimistic thoughts. Think about how good things have been and how well things you are working on will turn out. All you got to lose by trying a new way of thinking is setting aside negative thinking and a depressing attitude. C’mon, you can do it.

What will you resolve to do this year?

What will you resolve to do this year? Will you make resolutions to lose weight, go on a trip, fall in love, or change jobs? New year’s is a good time to take new chances. If you stumble working on your resolutions, laugh at the stumble, enjoy the misstep and begin again tomorrow. You may surprise yourself and make it by not taking your resolution so seriously.

Today’s Positive Thought ~ Change Your Mind, Change Your Life

“If you can change your mind, you can change your life (William James).” I’ve seen this happen time and again. I’ve seen folks who always thought about reasons why they can’t, then, one day, they changed how they thought about life and began thinking about why they could. They moved out of the breakdown lane and started moving on down the road. It’s our thinking that holds us back, when we change our thinking we discover a world of possibilities that we previously didn’t know existed.

Today’s Inspiration ~ Is It Time to Change?

“Don’t spend time beating on a wall, hoping to transform it into a door.”

Today’s Power Thought ~ A Couple of Simple Changes

When you replace won’t with will and don’t with do you’ll be moving at the speed of light.

Everything changes and it changes for the better.

Today’s Power Thought ~ Small Steps Yield Big Results

What is one thing you could do right now, today, to live a healthier life? One of the big mistake made when trying to live a healthier life is to try to do it all at once. That’s a heavy load to carry. You know yourself better than anyone. Choose one thing that contributes to a healthier life style and stay with it for a couple weeks. It will give you confidence to take on another thing. C’mon, you can do it.

What If . . .

What if I stopped doing what I’m doing and started in a new direction? That’s a scary thought. We get set in a job/career. We form habits to get through the day. We are into comfortable routines. When a crises hits and takes us out of our routines and habits we find ourselves caught in an emotional storm. We don’t want to change or adapt. We have no choice if we are to survive, we have to change and adapt. It is possible to stop what one is doing and start in a new direction. People do it all the time. It’s not easy. It forces us to think differently and acquire new knowledge. It forces us to grow.

Think About It

I can’t complain about how things are working out if I continue to act in the same way. I canexpect but the same results if I continue to operate with similar patterns.  If I want different results I have to change how I’m am acting. Waiting for things to change without personal change is akin to waiting for a warm summer’s day in the middle of January in the northern hemisphere, it’s not going to happen. If you change and you’re still not getting the results you want, what to do? Change again and again, you’ll get it right. Don’t quit.

Something to Think About

A cold front raced through south Texas yesterday plunging the temperatures nearly 30 degrees. The morning chill let my neighbors and me know winter is not going to skip us this year. It will be a short winter compared to northern areas (that’s good). It is a good reminder that things change. There’s not much we can do about many of life’s changes except to adapt, adjust, and learn to roll with it. When we fight things we can’t change, we waste our emotions and energy that could be better spent working on things we can change.

Today’s Power Thought ~ Be Well Suited for the Future

What we perceive as the truth today may not be the truth tomorrow. Things change. New knowledge is learned. When we approach life with an open mind and eyes willing to see, we can adapt to evolving situations. Don’t fear change or new knowledge. Adapt to it and you’ll be well suited for the future.
