Feel Good Tip of the Day ~ Switch it Up

Normally, my breakfast is the same each day. I have type of cereal (I rotate the kinds of cereal daily),add a dash  of cinnamon on top, zero sugar Greek yogurt, a dish of  blueberries with a handful of goji berries on top, and a pot of coffee. I’ve been doing it so long, I could sleep walk through it. Today, I switched it up. I toasted a slice of seeded multigrain bread and ccovered it with freshly ground peanut butter, and, of course, I had my blueberries with the goji berries on top and my pot of coffee. The switch was wonderful for my taste buds and my mind. It’s good to switch up our routines every now and then and get out of the ruts we make for ourselves. What will you switch up tomorrow?

Feel Good Tip of The Day ~ Roll With It

My amigo Jose is worried about the affect of the hot Texas sun on the new grass he planted this spring. I can understand how Jose feels since we are in a day after day cycle of 100 degree (38 C) weather. There are things in our lives we can’t change no matter how much we want to change them. Why waste a moment of energy fretting about it? It’s better to focus on what we can change and make the most of the moment. I think I’ll just roll along with the hot weather and pour myself  another  Texas sized glass of iced tea.

Positive Thought of the Day ~ Becoming New

“When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be.” Lao Tzu

NOTE: Nature teaches us great lessons. One of the lessons nature teaches us is that everything changes. The large live oak in my yard goes through the change process each year. In march, it sheds its leaves. No sooner are the leaves shed when the new buds appear and within a week or two the giant live oak is covered with fresh green leaves. Change happens. It’s the same with each of us. We change. When we adapt to change and the changing circumstances in our lives, we grow into something new. Don’t resist the moments of change, embrace them and take on the new.

Positive Thought of the Day ~ Choose Joy, Love, and Happiness

Grudges are a waste of perfect happiness. Laugh when you can. Apologize when you should and let go of what you can’t change.” ~ Drake

NOTE: Spend  your emotional and physical energy on those things that bring joy, love, and happiness to you and those you love. Don’t waste a second on fretting over what you can’t change or being yanked into someone else’s chaotic ride.

Inspiring Quote of the Day ~ You Have Incredible Power to Change

Never underestimate the power you have to take your life in a new direction.”

~ Germany Kent

Feeling Good Tip of the Day ~ Don’t Stress Over Things You Can’t Control

You Can Choose to Let It Slide

There are always going to be people elected into office whom you don’t like, taxes that you don’t want to pay, idiot drivers who refuse to move out of the left-hand lane, and a person ahead of you in the check-out line who won’t stop chatting with the clerk. The great benefit of being human is that we get to experience all of what life offers us, the good, the bad, and the ugly. To live stress-free is to learn to deal with this fact.

Dwelling on your frustration with a situation, person, place, or thing that can’t be changed doesn’t do anything other than drag you down. You can choose how to respond to negative situations. Choose to be happy and not angry or frustrated.

Positive Thought of the Day ~ Put the Shovel Down

This morning I heard a song by Slaid Cleaves. One of the lyrics stuck with me. “If you want to get out of the hole you’re in the first thing you got to do is put the shovel down.” I like those words. I know they’ve applied to my life time and again. It was only when I became aware I was making the hole I was in deeper by my continuous digging. My life got better when I learned to put the shovel down and climb out of the hole.  Are you stuck? Put the shovel down and climb out of the hole.

Inspiring Quote of the Day ~ Is It Time to Turn the Page?

“If you don’t like the road you’re walking, start paving another one.”

~ Dolly Parton

Today’s Positive Thought ~ The Only Person You Can Change

There is only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that’s your own self.Aldous Huxley

Most of us do an excellent job at trying to get others to change. The problem we face is that we fail most of time. A person only changes if they want to change.  Edgar Schein, (a guru on change) based on his research, indicated that we change only when the pain not to change is greater than the pain of remaining where we’re at. If we’re sufficiently introspective we may catch glimpses of where change is beneficial for us. Once we catch a glimpse, it takes courage to accept the need to change and act on it.

Optimism Works ~ You Can Change the Way You Think

Dr. Norman Doidge, M.D. in his book, The Brain That Changes Itself: Stories of Personal Triumph from the Frontiers of Brain Science, states that our brains are not rigidly mapped out as scientists once thought. Instead, by thinking differently, our brain has the incredible capacity to form new neural pathways (source).

If you’re prone to negative and doomsday thinking why not switch it around and practice for one week thinking optimistic thoughts. Think about how good things have been and how well things you are working on will turn out. All you got to lose by trying a new way of thinking is setting aside negative thinking and a depressing attitude. C’mon, you can do it.
