Optimism Works ~ The Small Steps Build Confidence in Tomorrow

The road to optimism starts with small steps, or small joys. “We build confidence and change our expectations for the future with tiny, frequent wins,” says Heft. Whether you planted pretty mums in a container to brighten your front steps or you checked off a task on your to-do list, don’t just brush these small accomplishments aside, acknowledge them. While pessimists tend to believe their fate is out of their control, optimists think that with hard work, the future is largely in their hands.

We can call the small steps confidence builders. When we take small steps to become more optimistic we quickly discover we’re smiling more, enjoying life more, and lot more fun for others to hang out with.

Optimism Works ~ Optimism Strengthens the Immune System

According to a 2010 University of Kentucky study that monitored the link between the immune systems of first-year law students and their hopeful approach to their studies, positive expectations for the future can help strengthen immunity (Source).

We all want to be healthy. One of the best prescriptions to strengthen our immune systems may be our attitude. Why not give it a chance. Instead of viewing your cupboard empty and your glass  half full why not seeing your cupboard jam packed full and your cup overflowing and spilling down the street. Life is good and getting better.

What if I believed I truly had an amazing future waiting for me?

What if I believed I truly had an amazing future waiting for me, how would I act? I, for one, believe I have an amazing future waiting for me. I have always been this way. It hasn’t mattered if I were knocked down, disappointed, or betrayed. I’ve always held fast to the hope that tomorrow is going to be better than today. And, I’ve believed I could make this day a good one. I may be foolish and overly optimistic, but I’m looking ahead to tomorrow, I know good things are coming my way. I hope they’re coming your way as well. If you keep your eyes and heart open, you’ll find them.

Think About It ~ The Fog Will Lift

Have you every driven or walked through fog so thick you could barely see ten feet (3 meters) in front of you? I have, many times. I grew up fairly close to the Atlantic Ocean where, at times, the fog was thick enough to slice it with a knife. Walking is fine, but driving can be scary. Life is like that when troubles surround us and there is no apparent end in sight. In the same manner as negotiating our way through a dense fog, it is time to slow down  until the fog lifts. It will lift, it always does. Our troubles will go away, they always do. We have to have the tenacity to stay the course, move slower, be careful of our steps, and move confidently knowing our troubles will lift away and we will once again have smooth sailing.

What if I Empowered Myself Through My Words?

What if I empowered myself by repeating ‘I am strong, confident, and resilient’ each time I rose from sitting for a week? I’m sure you’d discover that you are strong, confident and resilient. When we continuously repeat an affirming mantra we are retraining our minds to automatically switch into a new thinking mode. It is a thinking mode that empowers us. It is a thinking mode that slams the door on doubts and naysayers. Try it for a week. It can’t hurt and it might make all the difference in  your life.

Today’s Positive Thought ~ Believe You Can

“Believe you can, and you can. Belief is one of the most powerful of all problem dissolvers. When you believe that a difficulty can be overcome, you are more than halfway to victory over it already.”

~ Norman Vincent Peale

Today’s Positive Thought ~ What Are You Expression Outwardly?

Claude Bristol writes in The Magic of Believing, “What you exhibit outwardly, you are inwardly. You are the product of your own thought. What you believe yourself to be, you are.”  –  What are you exhibiting outwardly? Are you acting with confidence. Do you project warmth and compassion toward others? Is your smile genuine? Do your eyes sparkle with love, laughter, and joy? Is it time for a makeover? Think about what you really want to express, then create it. Practice it each moment and soon, your inner self will be one with your outer self.

Today’s Poem ~ The Beauty of a Rose

The Beauty of a Rose

Sri Chinmoy

No more brooding,

No more despondency.

Your life shall become

The beauty of a rose,

The song of the dawn,

The dance of twilight.

If I can always have

A childlike confidence,

Then my Lord Supreme

Will without fail, become

My sleeplessly self – sacrificing Friend.

You have given freedom to your mind.

Therefore, your mind causes worries for you

About the future.

Why do you not give freedom to your heart?

Your heart will definitely prepare you

For the future.

If we feel secure

In the depths of our heart,

We shall not challenge anybody,

For inner confidence

Is nothing short of

Complete satisfaction.

Today’s Power Thought ~ How Are You Setting Your GPS

I’m happy I can use Apple maps or Google maps when I’m driving to an unfamiliar place. I plug in the address and my iPhone takes car of the rest. I get turn by turn directions to my destination. Life’s not quite as easy. We have to figure out our directions as we’re traveling on life’s road. There are twists and turns, washout roads and bridges and detours. At each juncture we have to make a decision to go ahead or turn. There is no surety in our decisions. What to do? For me, I pray, then confidently act believing everything will turn out.
