Optimism Works ~ Want to Lead? Be an Optimist

In The Leadership Advantage, an essay from the Drucker Foundation’s Leader to Leader Guide, Warren Bennis tells us that optimism is one of the key things people need from their leaders in order to achieve positive results. Every “exemplary leader that I have met,” writes Bennis, “has what seems to be an unwarranted degree of optimism – and that helps generate the energy and commitment necessary to achieve results.” Source

John W. Gardner, former secretary of Health, Education and Welfare, said that leaders provide hope. The best leaders see what we can be when we are our best selfs. They inspire us to inspire others. When we live optimistically we lead our families, neighbors, and colleagues toward a better tomorrow.

Something to Think About

The past had its moment. It’s gone. Life is all about contributing to build a better future for ourselves, our families, and our communities. That sounds like an impossible task. It’s impossible until we break it down to it’s most essential pieces. It’s how we care about ourselves, families, neighbors, and colleagues. When we work collectively at our most fundamental level, our actions connect throughout the world to all others working at this fundamental level. We understand that great things can be accomplished when we work together, stop the insanity of war, and build a society that peacefully endures.
