Feeling Good Tip of the Day ~ Your Cup is Overflowing

“Constructing an optimistic vision of life allows one to have a full interpersonal world in spite of unfortunate circumstances … [it] reduces feelings of sadness/depression and anxiety, increases your lifespan, fosters stronger relationships with others and provides a coping skill during times of hardship. Being optimistic allows you to handle stressful situations better, which reduces the harmful health effects of stress on your body.” Source

NOTE: Instead of looking at your cup as half-full, look at it as overflowing, spilling off the table, running across the floor and out the door flooding the street where you live. Now, that is some kind of optimism and it is available to each of us. The key is within us. The more we reach out to help others and bring benefit to our world the more we are filled with an optimistic spirit. We are no longer powerless, we are empowered. What are you waiting for? The world is waiting for you.

Feeling Good Tip of the Day ~ Forgiveness Heals

It’s Not Always Easy to Forgive – However, Forgiveness is a Healthy Option for All Parties

Forgive. Harboring a grudge against a family member, co-worker, neighbor, a merchant or manufacturer, friend or someone you casually know doesn’t bode well for your mental health and overall well-being. In fact, it does long-term damage to your psyche. Find it in your heart to forgive, not just those you feel are responsible, but also yourself. Forgiveness doesn’t mean you condone the behavior, however. It does allow that negativity to be released, allowing you to move forward with your life.

NOTE: Each moment we hold on to our pain, hurt, or resentments we injure ourselves again and again. When we forgive the hurt, we release our negative energy and stop re-injuring ourselves. We also provide an opportunity for the person receiving our forgiveness to be healed.

Feeling Good Tip of the Day ~ Moving On

“Look for the lesson in mistakesNo one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. Most of us make many of them.  . . .  By learning to look for the lesson and taking heed of it, we’ll be less likely to see our actions as failures and more likely to view them as opportunities to grow.” Source

NOTE: If you’re a perfectionist making mistakes is a tough slog. It’s better to lighten up, dust yourself off, give thanks for the lessons it taught, and move on. Mistakes happen, give it your best to learn from them.

Feeling Good Tip of the Day ~ It’s All Now & It’s All Good

“Carpe diem! Rejoice while you are alive; enjoy the day; live life to the fullest; make the most of what you have. It is later than you think.” – Horace

NOTE: Why wait for tomorrow. Now is the moment. Today is the day. Where we are at the moment is exactly where we should be. Celebrate the moment. Here’s to the moment. Here’s to the circumstances. Here’s to all the wonderful gifts and opportunities surrounding us.

Feeling Good Tip of the Day ~ Simplify the Day

“Focus on less and do more. If we try and divide our time and attention into too many different directions, we get wrapped up in being busy rather than being productive. Multi-tasking isn’t an efficient use of our time, because we lose time and concentration every time we switch tasks. . . . I have found that asking myself what do I need to accomplish to make today happy and productive is a great way to focus on less to finish what matters most.” ~ source

NOTE: I like to make a checklist of things I have to do before I go to bed. It helps my mind quiet down so I don’t think about them in the middle of the night. I also priotitize my list into two categories, must do and like to do. It takes a bit of discipline because I’d prefer doing the like to do before the must do. I always feel better when the must do are done.

Feeling Good Tip of the Day ~ Bring on the Sunshine

“If you’re looking to improve your mood fast, walking outside is one of the quickest and easiest ways to do so. Exposure to the sun boosts serotonin production, which explains why some sufferers of depression notice a worsening of symptoms during the winter months. Less time spent out in the sun can lead to a drop in serotonin, resulting in depressed mood, anxiety, and low energy. . . . Spending a few moments in the sun during peak hours relieves stress and reenergizes the body and mind. Time outdoors will be all the more beneficial if you can sneak in a short walk, ideally somewhere close to nature.” Source

NOTE: I live in south Texas where we get lots of sunshine. When it’s cloudy for several days in a row I can sense a great change in the mood of the folks around me. When the sun returns everyone seems happier. I like the feel of sun on my shoulders when I walk. Sunshine has a therapeutic action on humans. It’s best to keep our sun exposure in moderation, but try to enjoy a few minutes every day in the sunshine, you’ll feel better.

Feeling Good Tip of the Day ~ Tune in to Good Music

Is It Time to Tune In?

As much as you’re able, listen to music. The right music can help you concentrate, find a rhythm for work, and even (when you need it) escape. Source

NOTE: The right kind of music can lift your spirits, awaken great memories, and inspire you. Choose playlists that energize, motivate, and elevate your spirit. Stay away from music that makes you angry, depresses you, and is degrading.

Feeling Good Tip of the Day ~ You Are Essential

There’s an old story of three bricklayers who were asked what they were doing. “I’m laying brick,” said the first. “I’m making a wall,” said the second. The third worker smiled and said, “I’m building a cathedral.” ~ Source

NOTE: Whatever your role in life it is essential. Without you playing your role to the fullest the rest of us would be greatly diminished. Each role, no matter how great or small, is important and deserves dignity and respect. My mom and dad worked at small rolls. My dad worked in a shoe factory, as a bartender, and janitor. My mom worked cleaning houses and in shoe factories. They taught me to respect both the work and the worker.

Feeling Good Tip of the Day ~ Boost Your Self Esteem

Treat Yourself the Same as You Would Treat a Valued Friend

The best way to improve your self-esteem is to treat yourself as you’d treat a valued friend, in a positive but honest way. Notice when you’re putting yourself down, such as thinking, “You’re so stupid for not getting that job”, and instead think, “Would I say that to my best friend?”. You probably wouldn’t. Tell yourself something positive instead, such as: “You’re a bright person, you’ll get the next job”

NOTE: If you don’t love yourself how will you be able to love others? Is it time to forgive yourself for not being perfect? Is it time to release the expectations others have for you and grab hold of the expectations  you hold in your heart? Is it time to let go of past wrongs and hurts and let the scars heal? Love yourself and you’ll find how much easier it is to love others.

Feeling Good Tip of the Day ~ Don’t Quit

“When you think you’re exhausted, when you think you’re fried, when you think you’ve done all you can, you can always find a little more in you. You are always capable of more than you think.  The key is to take a step back, in those moments when you want to quit, and regain control of your mind. Find a little perspective. Remember the reasons you started whatever task or journey you are on. Think about how you will feel — not just about the relief of the moment, but later — if you give up. Because that’s when you’ll achieve the success you want. ” ~ BY Jefe Haden, Contributing Editor.

Note: When you are tired and feel like quitting, dig deep, dig deeper than you’ve ever dug and give it your all for the next second, and then the next second. You’ll be surprised how much further you can go than you previously believed.Your best is yet to come, you’re only scratching the surface.
