Poem of the Day ~ Freedom

Freedom

George William Russell’

I WILL not follow you, my bird,
I will not follow you.
I would not breathe a word, my bird,
To bring thee here anew.

I love the free in thee, my bird,
The lure of freedom drew;
The light you fly toward, my bird,
I fly with thee unto.

And there we yet will meet, my bird,
Though far I go from you
Where in the light outpoured, my bird,
Are love and freedom too.

Inspiring Quote of the Day ~ Freedom

“Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves.”

Feel Good Tip of the Day ~ A Taste of Freedom

I like my morning cup of coffee. There’s something about the aroma, taste, and feel of it as I drink it. Eighteen months ago I decided to give up caffeine (well, not totally, I still like a nice tall glass of iced tea). I was talking about high caffeine beverages like coffee. I started drinking decaf. What I discovered, over time, is that I have a new found freedom. I don’t NEED caffeine to get my day started. I’m free to choose what I want to drink (I don’t drink alcohol) for breakfast or any other time of day. When I smell the real stuff brewing, there’s a temptation, but not big enough to sacrifice the freedom I’ve gained. Freeing ourselves from anything that has a hold on us is liberating. It may be coffee, it may be something else.

Poem for Today ~ Where the Mind is Without Fear

Where the Mind is Without Fear

Tagore

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thee
Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

Today’s Positive Thought ~ You Are Not Your Past

“I can’t go back to yesterday – because I was a different person then (Lewis Carroll).” Yesterday is an illusion, its only connection to reality are our memories and how we choose to interpret memories (e.g. photos, digital material). Where it’s happening is now. When we let our memories decide who we are or how we should act, we become prisoners to the past. We’re different now than we were then. We’ve paid our dues. We are free from our past. We have experiences that taught us important lessons. Let the past go and live today. Good things are coming your way. The only way you can see them is if you are looking ahead.

Today’s Positive Thought ~ Living the Life We Imagined

“Life isn’t about finding yourself; it’s about creating yourself. So live the life you imagined (Henry David Thoreau).” Every moment of every day we are creating and recreating ourselves. We often do it without thinking about it. What if we purposely set about in creating ourselves so we could live the life we’ve imagined? If we do, we will experience a new found sense of freedom and purpose.

Think About It ~ The Desire to Be Free & Self-Determining

There is a deep desire within each human being to be free. Even in places where people live under repressive governments, the desire to be free exists. Our deep desire to be free and self-determining links all human beings together. The oppressions of one group affects all groups. We are bound to each other in the quest for freedom and self-determination.

Today’s Inspiration ~ A Great Dream

A world I dream where black or white,
Whatever race you be,
Will share the bounties of the Earth
And every man is free.

~ Langston Hughes
