Podcast: The Hero’s Return: How Your Transformation Becomes a Gift to Others

In this episode of Optimistic Beacon, Dr. Ray Calabrese explores one of the most powerful moments of the Hero’s Journey: the return home. Drawing on the wisdom of Joseph Campbell, Ray explains why transformation is never meant to remain personal. The hero’s journey completes its cycle only when growth, insight, and resilience are brought back to serve others. This episode invites listeners to reflect on their own transformation—and how their hard-won wisdom can become a healing gift to the world.

Only a Baby Small ~ A Poem by Matthias Barr

Only a Baby Small

Matthias Barr

Only a baby small,
Dropped from the skies,
Only a laughing face,
Two sunny eyes;

Only two cherry lips,
One chubby nose;
Only two little hands,
Ten little toes.

Only a golden head,
Curly and soft;
Only a tongue that wags
Loudly and oft;

Only a little brain,
Empty of thought;
Only a little heart,
Troubled with naught.

Only a tender flower
Sent us to rear;
Only a life to love
While we are here;

Only a baby small,
Never at rest;
Small, but how dear to us,
God knoweth best.

The Gift

What a wonderful gift it is to wake up knowing we have a full day in front of us. We’re not entitled to this day. It is a gift. We are alive. We have a chance to do something with this day. What kind of footprint do you want to leave on this day? How will you affect those whom you interact with this day? Will everyone you meet be better off because you passed their way? We can take in the wisdom of the Roman philosopher, Marcus Aurelius, “When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive – to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.

Episode 56: Letter Writing Helped Me to View My Life with Babe as a Treasured Gift

In Episode 56 or my podcast, Journey from Grief to Healing, I talk with M about how far I have come on my grieving journey. The letter writing was an immense help. Writing the letters helped me to reframe what I lost when Babe died to viewing our relationship as a gift to be treasured.

Thinking Out Loud ~ This is Your Time & Place

You Are Where You Are for a Reason

In his work, Self Reliance, Ralph Waldo Emerson writes, “Trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string. Accept the place the divine providence has found for you, the society of your contemporaries, the connection of events. Great men have always done so, and confided themselves childlike to the genius of their age, betraying their perception that the absolutely trustworthy was seated at their heart, working through their hands, predominating in all their being. ” P. 112

NOTE: We are where we are in time and place. It is in this moment and in this place we find ourselves that we are to contribute our great gift to life. Trust the time, trust the place, open your eyes to the opportunities surrounding you. You’ll know exactly what to do when you listen to the stirrings of your heart.
